relevant and easy to listen to
Revisado: 04-27-25
as a small business owner, the material and storyline in this book were wonderfully relevant and I am excited to apply many of the suggestions. my main critique is that the author uses almost exclusively male references when referring to hypothetical people, like potential clients. I frequently found myself correcting him with she or they or her or their, nstead of the constant he and him throughout the book,. he writes as if all the people are male, which is interesting, because the case study he uses is of a woman entrepreneur. so it seems that maybe he was trying to be equitable, but, outside of that case study, everyone else in his world seemed to be a man. thankfully, that didn't prevent the concepts from being well received, and I quite enjoyed listening to the story as it unfolded

With Quiet, Susan Cain urged our society to cultivate space for the undervalued, indispensable introverts among us, thereby revealing an untapped power hidden in plain sight. Now she employs the same mix of research, storytelling, and memoir to explore why we experience sorrow and longing, and how embracing the bittersweetness at the heart of life is the true path to creativity, connection, and transcendence.

Poignant and helpful
Revisado: 08-12-22
Beautiful writing, almost like reading fiction. Relatable, resonant, empowering, gentle in its honesty and thoroughness. Kind and considerate yet unapologetically disagreeing with popular philosophies of our time, to honor what many of us have always known, even if we did not know it.

When Rodgers came out to her family as a junior in high school, she still believed that God would sanctify her and eventually make her straight. Wanting so intensely to be good, she spent her adolescent and early adult years with an ex-gay ministry, praying for liberation from her homosexuality. In Outlove, Rodgers details her deeply personal journey from a life of self-denial in the name of faith to her role in leading the take-down of Exodus International, the largest ex-gay organization in the world, to her marriage to a woman at the Washington National Cathedral.

Hard-won true story of courage and deep heart

Easy to listen-to story of a smart, committed, genuine, determined, brave, scared, caring girl. It was easy to follow her journey of discovery and relentless pursuit of truth and love. Despite insurmountable odds, she stayed somehow honest, humble, kind, and curious.

I learned so much about myself and why/how I am so different from the "norm," and that it's not only OK, it's very good! I felt that way before, but only had my own minority opinion available to me.

Historia
As a young Christian man, Matthew Vines harbored the same basic hopes of most young people: to someday share his life with someone, to build a family of his own, to give and receive love. But when he realized he was gay, those hopes were called into question. The Bible, he’d been taught, condemned gay relationships. Feeling the tension between his understanding of the Bible and the reality of his same-sex orientation, Vines devoted years of intensive research into what the Bible says about homosexuality.

This was easy to follow and thorough. The topic of homosexuality for Christians has been difficult to see clearly. This book was very well researched, documented and explained, especially from a biblical perspective.
