Historia
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

Good til almost the end
Revisado: 07-25-24
This story was so good and creepy and really kept me hooked until just about the end, like the last few chapters. I was worried I wouldn’t like the audiobook because of the little girl voice, but actually it added to the creepiness! I loved that the descriptions of the entity were never clear enough as to fully picture it.
Starting in the chapter where they took Bella to the beach to “reveal their past” and “take her innocence” the whole thing goes straight downhill. It’s overly dramatic and super drawn out for no reason. I skipped over huge sections because I was just completely over listening to it. I thought once that “big reveal” (that wasn’t really that big) was over, it would get better again. Nope. The over-the-top drama continues into Bella and even Grandma. Again to the point that I was skipping ahead to get past it. The very very end probably would’ve been good, eerie, and impactful, but the lead up to it was so obnoxious and then the end just kind of came out of nowhere.
I’m disappointed because this story was SO GOOD and the last couple chapters just ruined it.

There she lay in all her glory...it was her: Dalia from the Wild. As she lay upon the manicured turf eating a fresh peach under a heavy tree, my mouth salivated as she sexily consumed her delicacy.

Great performances really brought the story to life!

This author is dangerously good at writing scenes to make someone’s skin crawl. The purity check scene(s) had me ALL THE WAY terrified. I was listening and I actually stopped what I was doing and just 😳
It was so good and the narrators were phenomenal, especially Grace. I’m so interested to see where Dalia goes from here. And when there started being hints that The Wild was basically a zoo surrounded by a more advanced society, I was so intrigued. I feel like the first hints at it were subtle enough that they just made me stop and think “wait a sec… what did they just say? Lemme rewind that real quick… what in the hell does he mean by THAT?” 🤣
I can see why the author has a good following and it’s only going to grow because these are the kinds of stories people (read: laaaadiessss!) love!

Historia
For a millennia, they sat waiting, traveling through the dark, empty, cold vacuum of space, plotting our demise. Every continuity was planned in detail. They were ready to wipe out our armies, crush any resistance, and sweep aside any warriors. Mankind’s fate was sealed. It was only ever just a matter of time. What they had not planned for - what they are not ready for - is Karen! Any likeness between Karen and any real persons alive or dead is purely inevitable.

This book was so much fun to read! I normally don’t have the attention span for anything except thrillers, but this book kept my attention the whole time! Great author and great characters!

Historia
On a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge.

Absolute rollercoaster from start to finish!

Wow. This book put me through the whole range of emotions! Not one chapter goes by where you don’t take another huge turn. You’ll hate characters then love them, then back again. I haven’t been this enthralled by a book in so long!
