Historia
Nothing about Alice Wood's life is normal right now. Her fiancé Patrick called off their wedding and relationship only days before their nonrefundable wedding trip. And though a luxurious European river cruise for one is just what she needs, it's not what she gets... Due to a horrible misunderstanding, Alice is now cramped in her "romantic" suite with one of Patrick's friends.

Fun, surprising plot
Revisado: 10-20-24
The female reader wasn’t fabulous, but was okay. The male reader was really great, though! Admittedly, that probably made it more difficult to ignore that she was a bit one note.

The chic Manhattan nightspot Du Vin is not the kind of place Eve Dallas would usually patronize, and it's not the kind of bar where a lot of blood gets spilled. But that's exactly what happens one cold February evening.

Peabuddy?!?! Seriously?!?
Revisado: 02-29-24
I have loved this series since I started reading it sometime in 2004. I get lost in the stories, laugh out loud, and love watching the characters and relationships grow.
When I started getting audiobooks, I immediately looked into this series. The reader was so challenging for me that I haven’t pulled the trigger until now. I’m about 15 books behind (having been up to date previously and waiting with bated breath for each new novel) because I just couldn’t do it.
I have missed this series so much, so I’m biting the bullet and listening anyway. The reader grew on me for Eve and the narrator, but Roarke is rough and Peabody is horrendous. She makes me want to blow my nose every time she does Peabody’s voice. Then there is the fact that she pronounces Peabody’s name as “Pee-buddy” instead of “Pee-bahdee”. Every time. I cringe every time. McNab calls her “She-body” because it rhymes with her last name. How has this gone on for so long??

Historia
A great primal power has risen. The Queen of Flesh and Fire has become the Primal of Blood and Bone—the true Primal of Life and Death. And the battle Casteel, Poppy, and their allies have been fighting has only just begun. Gods are awakening across Iliseeum and the mortal realm, readying for the war to come. But when Poppy falls into stasis, Cas faces the very real possibility that the dire, unexpected consequences of what she is becoming could take her away from him.

Liked the reader MUCH better.
Revisado: 11-20-23
It probably had more to do with the fact that we weren’t jumping between two readers, who read the dialect differently. I did enjoy Mr. Campbell in the last book, but I enjoyed him much more in this one. Again, another very fun book!

Casteel Da’Neer knows all too well that very few are as cunning or vicious as the Blood Queen, but no one, not even him, could’ve prepared for the staggering revelations. The magnitude of what the Blood Queen has done is almost unthinkable.

Eather and Casteel
Revisado: 11-13-23
I really love Ms. Nielsen’s narration every time, but she has never elongated eather like this in the other books. I don’t know why it’s changed, if maybe it was a new director, but as others had said, it took me out of the story often and was fairly jarring. I actually really like Mr. Campbell as Casteel’s voice, but his accents and his subtle character personality quirks, shown through inflection and the like, don’t match up with Ms. Nielsen’s. Since her reading is all I know this far, it feels as though some adjustments could be made that would make it stellar narration, for me, rather than just enjoyable (which is still good!). Just the difference between great and exceptional.

Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.

Christopher Moore is the best!!
Revisado: 11-18-21
Spoiler alert!
I LOVE Christopher Moore books because they are hilarious, clever, and always surprising!! For example, reading The Stupidest Angel, it’s supposedly a Christmas story, but suddenly zombies! That’s the beauty of Christopher Moore! You really just never know, and it’s always enjoyable and hilarious!

Historia
When Edward Cullen and Bella Swan met in Twilight, an iconic love story was born. But until now, fans have heard only Bella's side of the story. At last, listeners can experience Edward's version in the long-awaited companion novel, Midnight Sun. This unforgettable tale as told through Edward's eyes takes on a new and decidedly dark twist. Meeting Bella is both the most unnerving and intriguing event he has experienced in all his years as a vampire.

So much better than expected!!
Revisado: 12-02-20
Candidly, I LOVED the original series. The way Stephanie Meyer captured the intensity of the first love so clearly it crossed generations was astounding! Me (26 in 2008), my niece (13), my mom (61), and my Gram (83) all related soooo closely with Bella’s feelings and insecurities. This book, from Edward’s POV, validates all the positive feels in Twilight. I loved learning more about Bella, through Edward’s experience, Charlie, and the entire Cullen coven. And so much more. I started to hope Stephanie Meyer might write a volume for Edward to mirror Bella’s experience. And maybe two or three (depending on breadth of development by Meyer) from Jake’s viewpoint; particularly because he is so engrossed in the whole journey from a completely unique perspective. Anyhow, loved this so much more than I thought and I was already pretty excited about it!

The reader is fantastic is any ways, but she mispronounces a few names that tools some getting useful. Her Brooklyn accent isn’t great, but overall, she is very good. The story is wonderful.

Revisado: 11-16-16
I'm on the third listen of this series in two months! I relistened to it a second time as soon as I had finished the seventh book. Now, here I am again, listening for this third time after having listened to several other books. It is so engaging, the narrators bringing you into the story in a wonderful way, details revealing themselves that I had missed previously, just as delighted to be taken into these wonderful worlds Jasper Fforde has created. Highly recommend!!

Historia
After two rollicking adventures through Western literature, resourceful literary detective Thursday Next definitely needs some downtime. And what better place for a respite than in the hidden depths of the Well of Lost Plots, where all unpublished books reside? But peace and quiet remain elusive for Thursday, who soon discovers that the Well is a veritable linguistic free-for-all, where grammasites run rampant, plot devices are hawked on the black market, and lousy books—like the one she has taken up residence in—are scrapped for salvage.
