Short, sweet, sexy, and English. Those attributes tick my boxes. Throw in narration by Gary Furlong and I'm sold.
This audiobook made me laugh out loud and Gary's performance was great. I'd recommend it.

Wonderful M/M Historical Romance
Revisado: 12-11-19
This was a joy from start to finish. Beautifully written and very much in keeping with the Victorian period. It has romance, mystery and a Scots country house to keep the listener intrigued. But what I loved was that this was in a way a teaser for a series. The characters of Benedict and Sebastian are delicious and I cannot wait for more. Of course, Gary Furlong knocks it out of the park with his narration.

Starling and Furlong - a winning team!
Revisado: 05-25-19
Apple Boy drew me in from the get-go. I love fantasy books and am always on the lookout for ones with LGBT characters who don't get the thin end of the wedge. The MC's in this book are Winter, a lordling who has fallen on hard times, and Adam a farm boy who is integral to Winter's well being in ways he is yet to discover.
The story romps along at a good pace with exceptional narration by Gary Furlong, who gives each character a unique voice. Is there no accent this man cannot do? I was particularly taken by the characters of Mr. Percheval and Mr. Wrenfrey who I found unique and hilarious.
The romance is nicely balanced with a story of political intrigue, mystery, and murder. The story is far bigger than this single book and we are left on a cliffhanger- but not a bad one. I am desperate for book 2, which is how it should be when a story is THIS well written and narrated.
I thoroughly recommend this book to those listeners who love LGBT Fantasy and M/M romance.

Historia
During the languid days of the Christmas break, a group of 30-something friends from Oxford meets to welcome in the New Year together, a tradition they began as students 10 years ago. For this vacation, they’ve chosen an idyllic and isolated estate in the Scottish Highlands - the perfect place to get away and unwind by themselves. They arrive on December 30, just before a historic blizzard seals the lodge off from the outside world. Two days later, on New Year’s Day, one of them is dead.

Good narration
Revisado: 03-09-19
I have no idea why Harper Audio decided to cast a brand new group of narrators for the US version of the book when they already had a stellar cast for the UK version. But saying that, what the UK version did not have was the Scots tones of Gary Furlong to give the book authenticity.
The story itself is one that has been done many times before, so I don't know why it is getting so much praise. We have a group of friends who have known one another since Uni who ritually spend the New Year together each year despite growing apart and resenting one another. And of course... there is a murder. The storyline is unoriginal but it was entertaining having lots of different narrators taking turns to read chapters.

A Sweet, Funny + Seasonal Second Chance shortstory
Revisado: 11-07-18
I love to bake, especially at Christmas and so listening to Gary Furlong narrate a story that began with baking cupcakes was a sinfully sweet delight. His narration is SO GOOD. I'm sure that man could read out a shopping list and I would be enthralled.
From the start this short story is laugh out loud funny. It's set in London at Christmas and pulled me in at once.
I loved how Chris and Robin met and rekindled their romance. No spoilers, but anyone who has read Isobel Starling books knows she won't let you down.
I would highly recommend this audiobook.

Historia
Lord Courtenay has been called many things and has never much cared. But after the publication of a salacious novel supposedly based on his exploits, he finds himself shunned from society. Unable to see his nephew, he is willing to do anything to improve his reputation, even if that means spending time with the most proper man in London. Julian Medlock has spent years becoming the epitome of correct behavior. As far as he cares, if Courtenay finds himself in hot water, it's his own fault for behaving so badly - and being so blasted irresistible.

Great narration, entertaining story
Revisado: 12-17-17
Is there anything you would change about this book?
Yes, I would have liked the narrator to slow his pace a little. The first hour felt a little rushed.
If you’ve listened to books by Cat Sebastian before, how does this one compare?
Yes, I've listened to The Soldier's Scoundrel and Gary's narration was far more robust for that story.
Which character – as performed by Gary Furlong – was your favorite?
Courtney was narrated very well.
Do you think The Ruin of a Rake needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
No, it was a good end, leave it at that.
Any additional comments?
The story lacked real peril. It was kind of pedestrian and none of the characters were ever in any real danger. It all came together far too easily and for the historical time it was set, it all struck me as entertaining but unbelieveable.

Loved the ebook, but the audio even better
Revisado: 11-30-17
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
The story is a gorgeous gay romance set in Scotland. There are kilts...men dressing in kilts and removing them. That particular scene is one of the most erotic dressing scenes i've read and hearing it narrated blew my mind.
What was one of the most memorable moments of As You Wish ?
The comedy, the Princess Bride quotes woven into the storyline, and of course the magical connection between Sam and Declan. They are such a wonderful couple.
Which scene was your favorite?
I think it was near the end when Sam was leaving Dunloch Castle and he snuck out without saying goodbye and Declan felt compelled to see him one more time. This scene actually made me cry. The emotion in the narrators voice was spot on
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. The narrator was new to me but I am now his number one fangirl. I downloaded the rest of this series. His Scottish and English accents are incredible. I could listen to him all day.
Any additional comments?
I've read this whole series in ebook and I didn't think it could be better. But the narrator chosen for this is just one of the best I've heard. I am so in love with Sam and Declan as he reads them.

Enjoyable listen
Revisado: 09-26-17
Where does The Monet Murders rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I've listened to hundreds of audiobooks. This was enjoyable, but more of a 5/10 than my all time favorite
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
I like Sam and his closed down, get the job done persona. I liked finding out why he is that way. I didn't like that there were so many cases intertwined that it was hard to work out who was who and which case they were connected to. I guess it would be easier to figure out if reading, but having names thrown out got confusing.
What does Kale Williams bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Kale Williams has a good steady narration pace. He didn't show if he had a great range of accents/voices, but I have no complaints about this narration
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. I listened to it as my bedtime story over several nights.
Any additional comments?
Another good, steady, formulaic Josh Lanyon book. Good narration. The fans will lap it up.

More than 20 years ago, the first epic fantasy novel featuring FitzChivalry Farseer and his mysterious, often maddening friend the Fool struck like a bolt of brilliant lightning. Now New York Times best-selling author Robin Hobb brings to a momentous close the third trilogy featuring these beloved characters in a novel of unsurpassed artistry that is sure to endure as one of the great masterworks of the genre.

A tragedy for Fitz and Fool fans
Revisado: 09-21-17
What would have made Assassin's Fate better?
If the author had stuck to the characterizations she so painstakingly created over the past 20 years.
If the Fool resembled the character we fans adored.
If Hobb had not focused so much on the Liveship journey,
If she had not ignored the love between Fitz and Beloved.
If she had given them the ending they deserved and not G.R.R Martin style cruelty.
If Bee had not been a Mary Sue character.
If Hobb had not built up The Whites to be such evil, to then let them be defeated so effortlessly.
If Hobb had not killed her darlings... then this would have been a better book.
Has Assassin's Fate turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes! Sadly it has. I have followed Fitz and Fool for 9 books and the last 3 were just awful. I think the fact that Hobb wrote them 10 or more years after The Tawny Man trilogy meant that she actually forgot the voices of her MC's. What she did to them throughout the last trilogy was horrific and 'out of character' in a way. I wish I had never picked up the last three books because they tarnished my fond memories of The Farseer Trilogy and The Tawny Man Trilogy.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
The narrator got the voice of the Fool all wrong- so wrong that it detracted from the book. This was such a painful listen
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
I was horrified, sad and disappointed by the turn of events in this book. Hobb seems to have been influenced FAR TOO MUCH by the work of G.R.R Martin. Her past books never detailed torture to such a horrific, graphic degree, but in was in this book with such glee. She seemed to not give a damn about her characters in the end, and pulled them to shreds.
Any additional comments?
If you have followed this series and loved Fitz and Fool I would advise you to AVOID this book. It will destroy everything you loved about these characters and leave you feeling empty and unsatisfied. Our boys do NOT get the ending they deserve and I will forever regret picking up this book.
