I typically don't enjoy mafia type books. I'm glad I didn't dismiss this one. Hot alpha male meets strong female. What could be hotter? Add Troy Duran and I'll definitely be listening to this one again.

Absolutely loved this book! Great story and narration. And the scenes with the kids had me crying with laughter! Best book I've read in a long time.

Stopped after book 1

I purchased this book set because it was on sale and it had such great reviews. There were so many reviews saying how much they love this author whom I had never heard of. As I said in the title, I stopped after book 1 and I had to force myself to finish that much.

There were parts of the story that made no sense whatsoever. There were several conversations that were eluded to that never took place. Both the story and character development were lacking. At one point, he mentions that he knows she's allergic to gluten and all I could think was "how would you know?" I don't recall even one meal that they shared or one conversation that didn't involve them being "intimate". Now don't get me wrong, I love a steamy scene, but that can't be the entirety of a relationship. I can't recall a single interaction that didn't involve either an argument or intimacy. And the arguments weren't lovely little spats by any means.

Needless to say, I didn't buy these two as couple. I'm not even sure I liked either of them.

That being said, I always love hearing Shane East's narration.

I don't think the author has ever been to a BDSM club

I couldn't finish the book.

I'm not sure the author has ever talked with anyone truly involved with BDSM. There were so many risky behaviors in this book. The sub says right off the bat that he has no limits. No one has "no limits". They negotiate their D/s relationship while in the middle of a scene. The dominant says they aren't going to do something then literally one minute later they're doing it. And the BDSM club that the MC owns serves alcohol in the play room! Alcohol and play, especially the heavy impact play that they engage in, do NOT mix!!! They don't actually drink the alcohol in the scene that I read, but they do mention stocking the bar in the room with wine.

The entire book reads like a vanilla person's idea of the fantasy of BDSM. If you're just looking for a light read, then you might enjoy this book. If you're looking for something that actually resembles the lifestyle, then this book isn't for you.

Finished it only because it was part of a series

This book annoyed me, no end. The female had no backbone and took the blame for things that were not her fault. But more frustrating than that was the fact that the author never had her stand up for herself and place the blame where it belonged. Also, the male lead was completely judgemental and blamed the female lead for the wrongs of others. The author just glosses over all of this and ends with a totally unbelievable HEA. Yes, it is possible that these characters could have reached a HEA, but that would only have realistically happened after much soul searching and communication. There was none of that with these characters. Like I said, I only finished this book because it was in a series. Otherwise, I would have stopped halfway through.

Had potential

I had high hopes for this story at the start. Quiet girl coming into her own. But then halfway through she became weaker than she was in the beginning. Furthermore, this entire book could have been told in half the time. There was angst just for the sake of angst. To the point of ridiculousness. It was actually difficult to finish the book. Also, be warned that this is not a standalone. The next book in the series, at least, is a continuation of this couple. The two main angst-y storylines are not resolved. Unfortunately, I'm not interested enough to continue the series.

A bit juvenile...but ok

The overall story was good but the characters and the writing were a bit juvenile. It read more like a young adult romance. Also there were several gaping story inconsistencies that I can't believe the editors didn't pick up on. For instance he brought her lunch because such and such was her favorite food. Then while they were eating they referred to the food as something else. I've listened to other books by this author that were written prior to this book. The others were much better. I think the author and the editors just got lazy with this one.

Unique and beautiful!

It's an insta love that's also a slow burn. A very unique and well written love story. Quite possibly the best romance I've read in a long time. I absolutely fell in love with these characters.

OMG! Amazing

This was my second attempt to listen to this audiobook. I got the book simply because I'm a fan of Julie's work but after the first few chapters I stopped listening. I figured this wasn't going to be my cup of tea. The two guys weren't my idea of good book boyfriend material. However, because it's Julie, I gave it another try and I'm so glad I did! This was quite possibly my favorite JA Huss book yet! The way she was able to turn these characters and this storyline into one where I was actually emotionally invested in the outcome, is simply a testament to her amazing talent. The book also has a unique ending that had me guessing until the final scene. Add the fact that the narration was totally on point, leads me to highly recommend this audiobook.
