Historia
On Winston Churchill’s first day as prime minister, Adolf Hitler invaded Holland and Belgium. Poland and Czechoslovakia had already fallen, and the Dunkirk evacuation was just two weeks away. For the next 12 months, Hitler would wage a relentless bombing campaign, killing 45,000 Britons. It was up to Churchill to hold his country together and persuade President Franklin Roosevelt that Britain was a worthy ally - and willing to fight to the end. In The Splendid and the Vile, Erik Larson shows how Churchill taught the British people "the art of being fearless."

Narration distracting
Revisado: 08-24-22
I wanted very much to enjoy this audiobook, but overall found the narration to be a distraction.

Historia
In the 1970s, New York City was plagued by crime, filth, and an ineffective government. The city was falling apart, and even the newly constructed World Trade Center threatened to be a fiasco. But in April 1976, a quarter-mile up on the 107th floor of the North Tower, a new restaurant called Windows on the World opened its doors - a glittering sign that New York wasn't done just yet. In The Most Spectacular Restaurant in the World, journalist Tom Roston tells the complete history of this incredible restaurant, from its stunning $14-million opening to 9/11 and its tragic end.

Very detailed foodie history of WTC and NYC
Revisado: 10-15-19
This book was an outstanding and very detailed history and account of New York City and those responsible for the development of the World Trade Center and it’s Windows on the World. Really enjoyed the foodie history! The book was very tastefully done (no pun intended). Narration was terrific.

Historia
Beginning in the predawn darkness of June 6, 1944, The First Wave follows the remarkable men who carried out D-Day’s most perilous missions. The charismatic, unforgettable cast includes the first American paratrooper to touch down on Normandy soil; the glider pilot who braved antiaircraft fire to crash-land mere yards from the vital Pegasus Bridge; the brothers who led their troops onto Juno Beach under withering fire; as well as a French commando, returning to his native land, who fought to destroy German strongholds on Sword Beach and beyond.

Excellent encompassing narrative of D-Day Invasion
Revisado: 10-02-19
This was another terrific, well-researched story by Alex Kershaw, covering the invasion by air and sea. It was interesting to learn more about the British and Canadian involvement in D-Day as well. The narrator was very good with French and German pronunciations and was pleasant to listen to.
If you ever wondered why the U.S. D-Day Memorial is located in Bedford, Virginia of all places, I very highly recommend another book by Alex Kershaw called, The Bedford Boys.

Historia
General Stonewall Jackson was like no one anyone had ever seen. In April of 1862 he was merely another Confederate general with only a single battle credential in an army fighting in what seemed to be a losing cause. By middle June he had engineered perhaps the greatest military campaign in American history and was one of the most famous men in the Western World. He had given the Confederate cause what it had recently lacked: hope.

Remarkable Story From Beginning to End
Revisado: 02-12-19
I just finished this remarkable audiobook on the complex life and legacy of Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson. The book was very well-researched, containing many details and anecdotes never before heard by me (even as a VMI graduate). Students of history, young and old, will find something compelling about Jackson’s story, beautifully executed by Mr. Gwynne and superbly narrated by Mr. Smith. I will surely listen to this audiobook again.
