This was a good thriller but a bit too over the top. Some of the plot twists are predictable although overall it was nicely done. I found by the end, though, I didn’t like any of the characters

Not what I expected

I was excited about this book— Berlin, the Cold War, a secretly alive father. It seemed to have everything. But the narration is horrible, the pacing so slow I tried to listen at 1.25 speed to stay engaged, and the dialogue so stilted I thought it might be a language learning course:( I gave up. Returning this one.

I really enjoyed the story and the premise. I did not enjoy the repetition. I think the book could have been a good hour or more shorter if the main character had not been allowed to rehash the same things over and over again.

I love Georgette Heyer’s detective stories and this one has some good points although it is not my favorite. But the narration is grating, especially the voice done for Charles. Why make him sound like some sort of British surfer dude? It is an odd choice. The rest of the characters are fine but that one is difficult to listen to.
