Narrators voice was easy to listen to. Story choice amusing. I’ve listen to it three times since purchasing.

What made the experience of listening to The Grapes of Wrath the most enjoyable?

I felt as if I lived the pain and the sorrow of The Joad family. In this trek from Oklahoma to California i traveled and suffered with these people. The way Steinbeck weaved hope, despair and the struggle of the human spirit for something better into this story places him in a class by himself

What other book might you compare The Grapes of Wrath to and why?

Night by Elie Wiesel, The Canterbury Tales, The Painted Bird

Which scene was your favorite?

I enjoyed the introduction of Tom Joad. When the trucker picked him up and started to talk to him he knew right away he was being sized up. Having just been released from prison, he was edgy, truthful and proud and wasn't going to be looked down upon. The dialogue and characterization in this scene brought his character to life as the hopeful hero.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

From start to finish each one of the characters, because they were so well formed and realistic, evoked empathy but never to the point of pity. Every character bore their share of hardship. You walk away from this experience feeling stronger for having been in their company. These were people to be admired.

What made the experience of listening to Of Mice and Men the most enjoyable?

Gary Sinese's reading can't be matched. The story is solid from start to finish so when you couple an extraordinary reader with classic material you will never be disappointed.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Of Mice and Men?

When Lenny and Curley's wife are conversing in the barn while the horseshoe game is taking place outside you know something is going to happen. Steinbeck places all the components in place to build suspense in this scene and you don't know what is going to happen until it does. My jaw dropped. My mind rummaged through so many thoughts the least of which was where is this going to go now.

What about Gary Sinise’s performance did you like?

He is just an incredible reader. His ability to shift from one character to another left this listener having to take a second look at how many readers were credited. He carried it all himself and did an amazing job.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Without question. I think I actually did it in 2 or 3 this audio presentation was so engrossing.

If you could sum up 14 in three words, what would they be?

Original, Captivating and Addictive

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the fact that the plot was so original that I was unable to predict where the writer was taking me. This book had me guessing to the last chapter.

Have you listened to any of Ray Porter’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Great narrator. I am new to his work.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

When the building super tells you to stay out of dark corners, there's a reason. Some doors are meant to stay shut.

Any additional comments?

Great read!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The initial pace of the book was a let down and I almost considered shelving it. Luckily, it picked up and was a worthwhile read. Readers who are jumping into the series at this point beware; I think this book is not an entry point into the series as some trilogies allow. You had to have previous knowledge of the characters and their plight to appreciate the book. The back stories only allow you a glimpse.

If you’ve listened to books by Justin Cronin before, how does this one compare?

The first installment of this trilogy was excellent. This book compares nicely in both character development and plot.

Which character – as performed by Scott Brick – was your favorite?

Kittredge

Was The Twelve: A Novel worth the listening time?

Yes.

Any additional comments?

I found myself missing the protagonists in this book. They became real people to me and that's the sign of a good book. Also, I found that I truly hated the antagonists in this book and that is equally important.
