Historia
The story of Eastern Europe is one of successes and failures, competing interests, and the rise and fall of states and empires. The ancient Greek and Roman empires knew the importance of Eastern Europe for trade and settlement. The medieval period would see some of the greatest empires of European history, like Kievan Rus, the Bulgarian Empire, Serbia, and the German Crusader states. By the early modern period, these great states would be replaced by Russia, the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and the Ottoman Empire.

Embarrassing Pronounciation
Revisado: 01-19-23
This simple and quick history would be fine if the narrator didn’t butcher names of important figures and places throughout. Be ready for 2 mispronunciations…per sentence.

Historia
More than 50 years since the passage of the Equal Pay Act, the wage gap still hovers at 80 percent, and only five percent of CEOs in the Fortune 500 are women. Today, rising up the ranks in many companies still often means cutthroat, win-at-all-costs tactics, where being the loudest voice in the room is more important than being the person with the best ideas for moving the company forward. Not surprisingly, most women don’t want to play this game.

Sour Grapes, not Feminism
Revisado: 08-13-19
I have been waiting for this book to come out since it has been marketed as a feminist manifesto for non-alpha females. It’s not. It’s a thinly veiled gripe session against Google, and it’s hard to tell if the author’s bruised ego has a message of women’s empowerment since every chapter is just a litany of grievances committed by the tech giant.
I was too distracted by the narrator’s diction (think book report reading in front of 6th grade class) and SUPER specific, author-specific examples (e.g. the “power hungry, narcissistic manager named Barry”) to be inspired.
Take away: it’s okay to be a Hufflepuff, just don’t go work for Slytherins.

Historia
What does it take to be secure in our sense of belonging and self-worth? We may hustle to attain this security through achievements, meeting expectations, or repeating affirmations to ourselves - but Dr. Brené Brown's research has shown there is ultimately one obstacle to our sense of worthiness. “Shame is the barrier,” she teaches, “and building shame resilience is how we overcome it.”

Misleading TED talk
Revisado: 07-24-17
The title subject is addressed maybe in one chapter; as much of a fan as I am of the author, this is a rehash of very broad, feel-good ideals available under so many of her titles. Waste of time and money.

Historia
An entertaining illumination of the stupid beliefs that make us feel wise. You believe you are a rational, logical being who sees the world as it really is, but journalist David McRaney is here to tell you that you're as deluded as the rest of us. But that's OK - delusions keep us sane. You Are Not So Smart is a celebration of self-delusion. It's like a psychology class, with all the boring parts taken out, and with no homework. Based on the popular blog of the same name, You Are Not So Smart collects more than 46 of the lies we tell ourselves everyday.

Really?
Revisado: 09-02-16
A brief and incomplete synopsis of study after study with little application or behavioral change advice.
The narrator reads in the most condescending tone the author may have hoped for, but it seems almost humorous whe paired with the truncated, incomplete and often disconnected list of findings the author presents.
