Enjoyed this audiobook. Thought I had it figured out but didn’t see the ending coming the way it did, making it even more fun.

Historia
When the External Womb Programme is launched, the news is controversial. Hundreds take to the streets in protest, feeling strongly that growing a baby outside of the human body is "unnatural". But thousands more people rejoice: at last, an alternative for those who wish to have children but worry about the physical toll it may take. A chance that throwing a baby-shaped grenade into one's career path might not derail it entirely.

Omar’s story started out so compelling. Wish there was more of him.
Revisado: 09-29-24
I liked the narration. The voice actors were outstanding. Omar’s story drew me in and kept me listening to the end. Lucy’s story, on the other hand, almost had me quit tue story right up until Omar’s began. For me, Lucy wasn’t likable. Violet was also not likable. I wondered about the connection between Omar and Lucy and stuck around to find it. And it wasn’t anything exciting that would explain putting the two stories together.
I think there are enough ideas here to make several great stories but it’s like they were put in a jar and shook up and pasted together. More time and a great editor could have resulted in a great distortion series. The author has talent. This is like a great, underbaked cake.
Also, I didn’t agree with Lucy’s point of view on so much. James was selfish. This was never discussed. James wanted a baby no matter what. Didn’t value what Lucy wanted. Lucy was presented as selfish and James selfless but he wasn’t supportive of Lucy’s career or desires. He didn’t care if she didn’t really want to become pregnant, didn’t really want to have a baby. And we don’t know enough about him or other characters to understand him well or feel any deep connection with him. And Lucy being not very likable or relatable didn’t help, either.
I never write reviews like this but decided today to write an honest review as the audiobook made me think quite a bit about why the story didn’t tell for me. And I spent hours giving the audio my full attention.
I hope the author continues to write and develop the talent obvious in this work. I think great works are very likely to come.

One of my favorite books ever.
Revisado: 11-23-23
I’d read anything RR Haywood writes. The Extracted series are my favorite of all by him. He is excellent at creating characters who have great banter and humor and who have friendship bonds that draw in the reader/listener. Can’t guess what will happen next.

Historia
It’s been 120 years since the 50 or so worldships containing the few million survivors of the human species set off after the planet Earth was destroyed by a meteor. On the Worldship Humility, Sam, a 30-year-old Airlock Operative, is bored. Living in space should be exciting and full of adventure, except it isn’t, and he fills his time hacking 3-D movie posters and holographic adverts outside the stores in the retail zone. Petty thief Yasmine Emile Dufont is also from the WS Humility, but she is not bored....

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Very interesting and convincing.
Revisado: 02-02-23
I’m not one who follows the royal family closely and personally as an American don’t agree with the view of seeing some people as elevated above others due to family history. I would be fine with not having anyone recognized as royal anywhere. I’m not British and understand most there don’t share my view. Most Americans don’t share my view, either. I don’t try to convince anyone else to think as I do. Im explaining that I listened to this as someone who is unfamiliar with most of the events Prince Harry describes in the book and who didn’t have a strong opinion on it as a result of knowing so little. All families have struggles. I imagine most outraged by this book and other things they read I. The news about the royals would be horrified if they experienced the same treatment by the press. I was saddened to hear of the actions (and the inaction) by those in the palace. It’s quite unfortunate and short-sighted as while I didn’t follow things closely, even I noticed the positive energy generated by Meghan Markel and Harry initially in their relationship and also after their South African trip. Allowing them to be stars, even if it took some attention away from others in the royal family would have had a great long term benefits for the royal family. Meaghan Markel appeared to be a great boost for them. She was young, very good looking, highly intelligent, educated, likeable, and well-spoken. Her past experience as an actress gave her uncommon ability at public speaking and social connections. I like the video story I saw of a young Meaghan taking advertisers to task over sexism and being successful at such a young age at making positive change. I liked that energy that she appeared to still maintain. The racism Harry and Meaghan faced offended and shocked me greatly. I thought Harry’s letter calling out the British press on their racism to be very well-written and was very happy to read it. Our family has been impacted by racism of a similar type, although on a much smaller stage. His words calling out the racism resonated with me. At the time I attributed Harry’s opinions in that letter to not just Harry, but also assumed it was the feeling of the royal family in general. I’m disappointed to learn many others in the family or working for the family were unaware of just where much of the world is now on the issue of racism. It is tolerated in workplaces or schools. Those engaging in it are called out most anywhere else. I understand the view of rising above, but this is a topic that needs to be called out. Allowing it to occur is makes racists feel emboldened and helps generate more racism and discriminatory behavior. How a parent traded gossip about a child to get better press for himself or his wife is baffling to me.
It’s ugly and I wish in some ways I didn’t listen to the audiobook, but I admit I was curious about what royal life is really like from a source I believe is truthful. I trust and believe Harry’s version of events. I also know that his view must differ from those of his family and that some of what he believes might not be exactly true for all others in his family who have different experiences and motivations. Two people can have conflicting versions of events without either party lying. Every family has things that are embarrassing. I hope Harry and Meaghan both are able to eventually mend their family ties. It might seem impossible now, but from personal experience, even very extreme conflict can be healed quite often over time as people I’ve new experiences that make them see things from different points of view or just let go of things past and forgive.
The parts of the book I found most moving were Harry’s recounting of his mother’s death and the impact this had on him and his brother. What a huge trauma they both had.
I never wanted to be famous and after
listening to this book find the idea repelling. How sad to have to deal with living on display all the time. I hope Harry and Meaghan and their family have a happy and as normal a life as possible.
I have long avoided clickbait type stories on royals and other celebrities and hearing how much of them are just planted made up stories makes me even more dedicated to this. I don’t want to participate in making others feel as Harry described feeling.

This is such a compelling read. I avoided the book for some time, worried it would be depressing but it turned out to be an addictive book. The frame for the story works well. The characters feel so real, so believable. Very well done.
