Historia
In the early days of April 1941, the 14,000 Australian forces garrisoned in the Libyan town of Tobruk were told to expect reinforcements and supplies within eight weeks... Eight months later these heroic, gallant, determined 'Rats of Tobruk' were rescued by the British Navy having held the fort against the might of Rommel's never-before defeated Afrika Corps.

The Rats come alive
Revisado: 10-05-14
I could never make sense of this part of the war ...you see my mothers uncle survived Tobruk ...but he was British and the Rats of Tobruk were Aussies. Not only does it now all makes sense I actually feel like I have just lived through history and several battles as an eyewitness. Great piece of story telling but more so; Great piece of history telling.
I recommend Peter's book to anybody who "thinks" they understand Tobruk and it's place in the war.

Good BUT
Revisado: 10-05-14
Troll mountain is a good read and good standalone story but not of the same style of story we have become used to from Matthew. If you are a fan of Scarecrow and Jack West Jn then this may not live up to expectation.

Good break into the Numa Files
Revisado: 06-23-14
This is my first taste of the Numa files after reading the Dirk Pitt series. Same flare and excitement but you can listen to these stories around the kids.. The stories are believable and not too far fetched. The violence and language is enough to give it an edge but not gratuitous. The story moves with a solid pace and has you asking what is history and what came from the imagination but with plot twists enough to keep you more than interested.

Historia
Years ago, an ancient Phoenician statue known as the Navigator was stolen from the Baghdad museum, and there are men who would do anything to get their hands on it. Their first victim is a crooked antiquities dealer, murdered in cold blood. Their second, very nearly, is a UN investigator who, were it not for the timely assistance of Kurt Austin and Zavala, would now be at the bottom of a watery grave. What's so special about this statue? Austin wonders. The search for answers will take the NUMA team on an astonishing odyssey through time and space....

The Character study
Revisado: 06-29-13
This is not in the usual ripping yarn style.. It is a good drama but more of a character study of Hornblower. The story is much slower paced than normal and the whole story revolves around his escape through and out of France. The reader is taken on as much a ride through his emotions, weaknesses and uncertainty as we are a flight to freedom but it is very well written and a must read if you are to maintain both the story and the man himself. However I would not reccomend as a one of sample book to read unless you are a school teacher looking for an excellent book for students to do a case study of a character which would hold the interest for either gender.

Fast paced, Excellent story and very well read
Revisado: 06-12-13
The Reader- Christian Rodska is the star of this book. Very well read with great pace and excitement. This is probably a favourite so far (reading in chronological order of Hornblowers career). Very believable story with neat twists that tie this story to the real history of the day. Forester does a fantastic job of keeping this work of fiction in tune with historic events. So much so it is easy to believe (almost understand) how the fictional Hornblower influenced the histroy of the RN and the battle of Trafalger.

In the year 1805, the young and enthusiastic Horatio Hornblower is given his first command as Captain of HMS Atropos. A 22-gun sloop, it is hardly the biggest ship in the navy, but undeterred, Hornblower boards the Atropos in eager anticipation of the voyages to come. Acting as flagship during the funeral procession for Lord Nelson, Horatio's first endeavour is to pay tribute to the country's fallen hero.

The First Command
Revisado: 06-12-13
Hornblower and his own command continues to grow in character. Not as fast paced as some of the other books but with some unusual story lines. This book is a little slow and drawn out in the early section but pays good attention to the traditions and protocols of the RN. The story does pick up as Hornblower is sent into service and builds to a climax expected of a Hornblower story.

Historia
On the day of his marriage to Maria, Hornblower is ordered to take the Hotspur and head for Brest – war is coming and Napoleon will not catch His Majesty’s navy with its britches round its ankles. With thoughts of his new life as a husband intruding on his duties, Hornblower must prove himself to be not only the most capable commander in the fleet, but also its most daring if he is to stop the French gaining the upper hand. This is the third of eleven books chronicling the adventures of C. S. Forester’s inimitable nautical hero, Horatio Hornblower.

Excellent continuation of the story
Revisado: 06-12-13
A comfortable passage of the early years in Hornblowers life. Plenty of action and a good backstory to boot. Brings home the hardship of service in a HM Ship during the many years of War with both the French and Spanish Navies

As near as can be to fact. The story could have been about Nelson himself but would not have been half as interesting or action packed.

Action packed but believable
Revisado: 09-17-12
Classic action. This is like the Matthew Reilly or Andy McDerrmott you can listen to in front of the kids. Same action packed story lines mixing history, fiction, fact and myths but without the bloody battle descriptions and four letter words. This is a mix of a "today" story line full of techno wizardry and villans; but combined with the classic Greek myths that actually makes the Greek myths sound more believable than Homer did. I could never understand how Odysseus could get lost in the Meditterranean Sea for years....until now
