There are a few gems in this collection, but it quickly degenerates into very tedious fan-fiction. The campy style of humor used in several stories makes me question whether the authors meant to write a spoof, or if they wanted to be taken seriously.

A pity and a shame; there's so much that could have been done with this.

This is not Victorian Science Fiction. It's an allegorical journey through the mind of an insane and spiteful god. This is the Pilgrim's Progress of Gnosticism. Everyone Maskull meets dies, usually due to Maskull's ignorance. And when Maskull meets himself, he too ceases to exist. But that's not the end of the story...

OK... it's better than the movie we got.

OK... it's better than the movie we got. But not by that much.

Ripley gets little more than a cameo.
Newt has more lines than Ripley.
Most of the action is from Hicks the space marine and Bishop the android.
Between the two of them you might have enough parts to build a real personality.

All the tropes are there and at no time do you not feel like you've seen this movie before:
Evil Company guys who are completely soulless.
Crawling around in ductwork.

Interactions with computers in that must have been in ALL CAPS.
BLOW UP SHIP? Y/N
ARE YOU SURE? Y/N

Did I mention they blow up the ship?
A disembodied female voice reminds you frequently that it's about to blow up.

And when you have no idea what to do next: insert lots and lots of gunfire.

The official story is the screenplay was outdated because it had a Soviet bloc group (The Union of Progressive Peoples) and in the late 80's the Russians had stopped being Bad Guys and were now Good Guys.

This was a plus, it's nice to have antagonists who aren't completely two dimensional and have complex values and motivations.

On the downside, he added attributes to the Xenomorphs. Seems a dying embryo exhales virus-like DNA that can turn you INTO a Xenomorph. If that's the case why bother with being deep throated by a Facehugger and all that other messy stuff?

I don't know who Cathy Dobson is but she sounds like the librarian from the children's room reading for a Halloween party.

"He reached for .... THE DOOR!"
"What is ....IT? He asked ... LISTLESSLY!!"

I usually only focus on the story in reviews, but this performance simply ruins this collection of classics.

Ugh... Need to set Suspension of Disbelief to Max

Comic book characterizations of truckers and bikers. Only two chapters in and it's agony to listen to. Totally baffled by all the positive reviews. I try not to leave books unfinished, but if this doesn't get better and fast it's going on the discard pile.

I enjoyed the Out Of The Shadows dramatization a lot and was hoping for more of the same. At two chapters in I am already hoping it gets better. It sonds like a Saturday morning cartoon. Horribly predictable characters. Very disappointed.

First off, I'm very glad this is available as an audiobook. Finding recordings of primary source material is rare. As this is as close to source as it gets.

BUT... the reader uses soft non-rhotic R's that make him sound like Elmer Fudd or Monty Python's Pilate:

"I have a vewwy gweat fwend in Wome..."

It's more than just a little distracting.

not a bad story but so much the original alien it didn't add too much, Sort of a repetitiom of Alien with a new cast of characters.

And now back to "The Episode of DEATH!"

Very happy these are available, but wish there was some sort of episode listing or table of contents.

I'm pretty sure this was re-released in between the time I downloaded these to my phone and when I put them on my MP3 played: because the stories are in completely different order on the two devices. Very confusing, I've no real way to tell if I've heard all of them.

But it's a very fun (if long) listen. Even with the plots being extremely predictable.

One plot plot element that is used over and over: If a character is about to reveal the name of the killer, they will be cut down by an unseen gunman before they can complete their sentence.

Also, death is almost always instantaneous: one shot, or one knife would and your dead in the next five seconds.
