An okay read. The narrator's regular speaking voice would've been fine if he just used it throughout instead of making some of the characters sound like friggin Beavis.

....eh.
Revisado: 04-30-22
Kept me occupied while driving and during work. I did want to finish it, so that must mean something. General story direction was okay, even if a bit ridiculous at times. A lot of stuff could have been explored more and was just glossed over....like, hundreds of people and animals going missing or killed and it's just like "Oh no.... anyway-"
I'm generally picky about werewolf depictions and thought this take was alright.
Read like a disney tv movie with a bit of gore and swearing. I know it's a "young adult" novel, but I rolled my eyes and cringed at a quite a bit of the writing and dialogue, and I don't mean the teen love parts since I was expecting that. Tonally all over the place, no real consistency, ESPECIALLY in the narration. A lot of the narration sounded like preschool teacher reading to students, and was kind of annoying and killed the mood.
Overall, just okay. Could have been better.

Historia
In the spring of 1903, the 311, known to locals as “The Majestic”, carried more than 100 passengers on board toward a tunnel mouth that would allow the 13-car locomotive to pass safely through the underbelly of the Canadian Rockies. The tunnel swallowed the 311 whole, and the train - and everyone on it - were never seen again.

Love Breeds so I thought I'd check this out (being about a train helped catch my interest too :3) All around fun read/listen. Great blend of crazy/weird, fun, horror, humor and heartwarming moments like in his other series.

I wanted to like it more, but...
Revisado: 01-13-22
Too many things bothered me and didn't make sense, and I couldn't get over them.
Animals just hate humans and revel in their genocide, regardless of their past relationship with them, which is stretch to me. And like everything else, it's not explored or explained much.
Characters make weird decisions constantly, most being brutal holocaust-esque violence without a second thought, with others just being weird and not making sense. Even Morte's arc makes little sense, where at first it seems like he actually cares about his human family and wants to protect them, which he does once in the beginning, and then he just f**ks off and doesn't care about them, or anyone else really..... except Sheba of course. Which is all that his story really revolves around, unfortunately.
It's unfair comparing this to animal farm, because there's VERY LITTLE exploration of anything in the book. There's ONE character in the whole thing that actually talks about everything that the animals and ants are doing.... for like a short paragraph. It's weirdly out of nowhere and never brought up again. Even it's commentary on religion is surface level and shows serious misunderstanding (and I say this as someone with low views of organized religion).
I don't hate the book honestly, it got me through my shifts at work, but that's about it. I was just left disappointed.
Which sucks cuz it's absolutely an interesting premise.
I mean, it's free, and if my gripes don't bother you then it's a fine listen to kill time with, at least.

A favorite
Revisado: 12-16-21
Probably my favorite werewolf series, if not just favorite series in general. As gruesome and horriffic as it is touching and heartfelt, from all characters, human and were. Blackmore's weres are more interesting than the tired (imo) soulless and murderous killing machines many other authors go with, not that there aren't any at all ;)
The later story might jump the gun a teeny bit but I dont think it's bad at all.
Overall great series, fun and intersting characters, writing and story. Definately worth a listen.

Oof

Couldn't return it, so thought I might as well finish it to see if it would do anything differently, break the mold, do something interesting (mainly something less gross and f***ed up), but nah. Disappointing. Maybe I'm just really picky when it comes to werewolf books and want something different (and have almost zero luck getting it), but man this just seemed like a bit much. Honestly the writer constantly referring to the Romani villains as gypsies didnt help at all either.

Historia
Since the dawn of time, across almost every culture, there have been legends of shape-shifters. Men who turn into beasts and prey upon anyone unfortunate enough to cross their path. Of the shape-shifter tales, none invokes as much terror as the legend of the werewolf. The stories of men who become wolves persisted through the centuries from campfire folk tales to the modern age, where we are still thrilled and horrified by tales of bloodthirsty predators in our midst.

Entertaining, but dissapointed
Revisado: 08-20-21
I dont know, I kind of expected something different than the same old "werewolves being merciless incontrollable bloodthirsty killers massacring people left and right" in at least SOME of these. Some fresh or truly different takes like some led me to believe. Really only 2 or 3 were even close to that for me, with the rest being mostly what I said (albeit different perspectives) or showing signs of being different and then just seriously wasting it (Outside of Nowhere was a real let down for me, like, I'm making my own ending to it, I don't care.)
I mean, if you like the aforementioned kind of telling of werewolf stories you'd probably like them just fine, but I was mostly left wanting something more and different.
The narrator did a fine job, and nothing was lost in his accent for me.
Also quite a bit of sexual abuse (which I get is part of the "get what's coming to them" story bits) but if you're not comfortable with that, be weary.
