A super scary view of a company that shows that most companies are psychopaths. And this is one of the worst. Damning

Amazing and sad. Som much is wrong with these big companies. Thank you to the author for having the courage to say what is right and true. Respect

Victor Alderheim has a lot to answer for. Not only has he heartlessly tricked his young ex-wife, Jenny, out of her art gallery inheritance, but he has also abandoned his son, Kevin, to die in the middle of the Kenyan savanna. It doesn’t occur to Victor that Kevin might be rescued and adopted by a Maasai medicine man, or that he might be expected to undergo the rituals expected of all new Maasai warriors - which have him running back to Stockholm as fast as you can say circumcision without anaesthetic.

Delightful novel told with an eye twinkle. I dare you not to laugh out loud when a certain traveller leaves Africa for Sweden
Revisado: 02-02-25
I loved this book. Irreverent but real. Tru and funny. Peter Kenny is one of my favourite narrators (see Clare North stories). Characters are real and delightful and caricatures at the same time. Genuinely funny and the occasional tear. Ends magnificently. The story intertwines and echoes and is told with the perfect eye twinkly. I want more stories of the Maasai medicine man.

Historia
A boy meets a girl. The past meets the future. A finger meets a trigger. The beginning meets the end. England is forever; England must fall. The Ministry of Time is a novel about Commander Graham Gore (R.N. c.1809-c.1847) and a woman known only as the bridge. As their relationship turns from the strictly professional into something more and uneasy truths begin to emerge, they are forced to face the reality of the project that brought them together.

Good
Revisado: 08-12-24
I really want to like this more. I feel like as though it is the bus of a great idea but somehow I just didn’t get the characters enough. Didn’t feel for them. Compare and contrast to the “fifteen lives of Harry August” which has similar themes but is in my opinion much more complete. It takes its time to know the characters.

Historia
A gripping blend of family mystery, contemporary stories and the beautiful and bloody Viking tales, set against the starkly stunning landscape of Iceland. Broadcaster Richard Fidler and author Kari Gíslason are good friends. They share a deep attachment to the sagas of Iceland - the true stories of the first Viking families who settled on that remote island in the Middle Ages. These are tales of blood feuds, of dangerous women and people who are compelled to kill the ones they love the most.

Great Book to Listen to before you travel to Iceland
Revisado: 12-31-23
The locations and stories in this book make any trip to Iceland that follows a much more personal and exciting experience.
When you stumble upon the mountains, landmarks and buildings that are discussed and explored in the book it’s so exciting. But the sagas themselves bring Icelands history to life. The dual narrative is great and so personal too and creates the bridge you need to go from the distant past to the present - while you do your own exploring.
In fact, my mother and I made the journey to Iceland, specifically because of this book!
Utterly amazing – would recommend.

Brought up in the household of a powerful Baron, Candide is an open-minded young man whose tutor, Pangloss, has instilled in him the belief that 'all is for the best'. But when his love for the baron's rosy-cheeked daughter is discovered, Candide is cast out to make his own way in the world. And so he and his various companions begin a breathless tour of Europe, South America and Asia, as an outrageous series of disasters befall them - earthquakes, syphilis, a brush with the Inquisition, murder - sorely testing the young hero's optimism.

Super narration of a superb and still funny tale
Revisado: 12-05-23
It’s a superb satire and funny due to its big ideas. It isn’t dated - testament to its author. Having listened to numerous versions, this narrator stands out for his excellence. Just brilliantly told. Even the accents have just the right amount of satire.

Just keeps on getting better
Revisado: 01-01-23
I love the slow realisation of the protagonists. We the listener don’t get any more info than they do so we journey along with them with the same excitement at new discoveries and the same emotions as good / bad / sad / fair / unfair things happen. It’s a harsh real world. I need a book of something else before the final in the trilogy
