I thought this was a book about how to improve your attention. Instead, it was a meandering summary of how to be a better person. When the topic WAS attention, it wasn't concrete. The author made feeble arguments that one SHOULD have focused attention. Anyone listening to this book, however, probably is already convinced of the value of focused attention. There were strange sections on parenting, ADHD drugs, charitable giving, and philosophies of meditation.

From the description, I was under the impression that it was about improving intimacy in normal relationships after the passion of a new relationship has faded. Not really.
Pretty much all of the anecdotes were about relationships where the couples haven't even touched each other in years. Once the author (the couple's therapist) made a suggestion that inspired the couple to have sex again, the story was over. There was nearly NOTHING applicable for couples who have regular, satisfactory sex but are looking for improvements.

I picked this book because I wanted to improve my focus. Probably 50% of the book was dedicated to convincing the reader of the importance of focus.
When the author finally got to the concrete suggestions, I found that I was already implementing a lot. Still, I got some good new ideas.
The narrator was fine, but over dramatic in a way that didn't match the material.

Beautiful narration of a classic

Great narration. maybe the best I've heard in an audio book. Beautiful British and French accents, variety of character voices.

It's hard to criticise Dickens, but the story isn't as amazing as I remembered from my assigned reading in high school. Some of the main characters (Lucy and Charles) are pretty flat. Twists in the plot are forecasted too heavily in foreshadowing. Beautifully written, but I probably won't revisit.

useful ideas for overcoming habits

This book loses its way for a while, but I'm better off for hearing it. The author introduces a strong foundation early by explaining what a habit is and how they can be changed. Some of the stories, though (the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Civil Rights Movement) seemed like a stretch. It seemed like the author temporarily adopted a different definition of a habit to foot those examples.
The concrete ideas in the appendix were good, and should have been included early in the book.

It kind of felt like nothing really happened. I can imagine how this will be a huge setup for Rogue One, but it doesn't really stand on its own as a story.

The content of the book was good. I read pretty much every book on creativity that I can find as a way to continually rethink my process. this had a few new ideas. I appreciated that it is very specific and concrete. Some points were a little boring, but i don't have any big complaints. I was surprised that a book by a dance choreographer could have so much application to me (a photographer.)

The narrator was way too cutesy for me. I'm sure that some people will love her energy, but i found it very off putting.

If you know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about marketing, this might be good for you.
The author spent a lot of time going through the details of VERY BASIC concepts like how to connect with someone on LinkedIn, and that click-through rates on Web ads are low. So much time, in fact, that I started to wonder if I should skip ahead to the good stuff... And then the book ended.

i read every book I can find on the subject. I always glean something, but I can't think of another book on art or creativity that I've read more than once. I just finished this book for the tenth time.
I'm an aspiring fine art photographer dealing with the struggles that all aspiring artists struggle with. This book doesn't talk about apertures or composition or posing models. It discusses something much more relevant: how to continue trying among my self doubt.
Whenever I ask myself why I'm even bothering to try, anytime I feel silly for thinking of myself as an "artist", phrases from this book give me the nerve to just keep working.

Captures the movement with anecdotes

There were a couple times when I wondered why the author spent so much time on a specific artist or event. I realized though, that it's impossible to effectively describe an art movement by talking about the movement itself. He captures the essence of the movement with very specific anecdotes. It's very effective in this case.
I'm an aspiring artist and trying to choose my best path forward. This book didn't give me clear guidance, but it helped remove some of my infatuation with art school.
The style of the narration was perfect for this book. The narrator spoke as if he was telling a kind of funny story (which he was.) He was upbeat, a little playful, not silly, or over the top.
