bad ethical plot armor

random drug addicts that you've never seen hurt anyone but themselves are KOS, but the murdering megalomaniac walking weapon who you have tiptoeing around because he has repeatedly shown that you are either his friend or his enemy with no in between gets a pass. I'm not saying killing him would be right, but seems like a fucked up time to grow some ethics. just seems like shitty plot armor.

I loved the story and characters conceptually, but the story beats felt rushed, which left me feeling uninvested in the world and characters. about the time I started to care about any of it the world was ended.

I really want more horny sci-fi and fantasy like this, less look at me big strong male who is soooo strong that every other man is a threat. and more live love and build, and willing to fight for it.

A masterpiece

I've seen some reviews call this rapey, misogynistic and racist, and in some ways this is true. This series take place in a feudalistic society, and does not paint over or apologize for it's flaws, but instead uses them to challenge fantasy and societal norms, by creating a vibrant and nuanced world and characters. In many ways this book is a bad introduction to this series for people looking for these things in a series, but a perfect starting point for series to grow from. If this book isn't to your taste please read some of the off shoot series, as they may ease your mind about what this series is and draw you into this vibrant living world. You won't regret it.

Teen romance novel, not great, not horrible. Fine for what it is, but ties it's self in knots trying to keep the main character to some weird form of the ideal woman. in general lacks nuance.

excited for the story, not the reader

still listening to the story, but I would have been happier listening to Microsoft Jane reading this book. I can practically hear the reader counting time for every punctuation mark. I'm not expecting Rosario Dawson to read this book, but it would be nice to hear some inflection, emotion, or sign of human interpretation of the source material.

bad sound design great naration and story.

love these books and the naration is great but that chapter music is an offence against all of of existance. it was fine as a break between parts in book one. but it's distracting in the chapters especially because the chapters in the book should flow together. Even if you take a break on the chapters the music is distracting and breaks the mood ruining that sense of delayed gratification or pensivness that the chapters of these books are designed leave you with.
