Historia
Naomi Bowes lost her innocence the night she followed her father into the woods. In freeing the girl trapped in the root cellar, Naomi revealed the horrible extent of her father’s crimes and made him infamous. No matter how close she gets to happiness, she can’t outrun the sins of Thomas David Bowes. Now a successful photographer living under the name Naomi Carson, she has found a place that calls to her, a rambling old house in need of repair, thousands of miles away from everything she’s ever known.

It was an OK book to listen to
Revisado: 01-25-25
Nothing special. The descriptions of random things are way to long. The book starts strong, but then the middle draaaags on, to the ending that is totally underwhelming and predictable. I love Nora and I was a bit disappointed with this book. True - it’s the first time I listened, instead of reading one of hers.
It was OK to listen to during driving or shopping, but it didn’t take any serious focusing from me.

Historia
In her new book, the Sunday Times and New York Times best-selling author of Damaged tells the story of the Dawn, a sweet and seemingly well-balanced girl whose outward appearance masks a traumatic childhood of suffering at the hands of the very people who should have cared for her. Dawn was the first girl Cathy Glass ever fostered. Sweet and seemingly well balanced girl, Dawn's outward appearance masked a traumatic childhood so awful, that even she could not remember it.

a bit disappointed
Revisado: 07-23-24
this one didn't quite sit right with me. I know Cathy has been inexperienced then, but this is just unreal. I mean, noone can be THAT naive and submissive towards social services, letting them and Dawn to just walk all over them, not answering questions and risking the life and safety of Adrian. She went a bit overboard with the story this time, it just wasn't believable to me. And if she really spoke to Dawn in the tone you use for a toddler, it's no wonder the kid ran loose.

Historia
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Not impressed
Revisado: 04-10-24
She was abused and everyone around her failed to help her. It’s not even funny. She also took way too long to grow enough courage to stand up for herself. She didn’t, actually. Her mom died beforehand.

Historia
Now reduced to a schoolyard chant, the Hope family murders shocked the Maine coast one bloody night in 1929. While most people assume seventeen-year-old Lenora was responsible, the police were never able to prove it. Other than her denial after the killings, she has never spoken publicly about that night, nor has she set foot outside Hope’s End, the cliffside mansion where the massacre occurred.

Pleasantly surprised
Revisado: 01-12-24
I liked the book. It was a bit repetitive at times with the plot very far fetched, but it kept me interested, and that isn’t easy.
Don’t take it too seriously and enjoy.

Having worked for 16 years in a high security women’s prison dealing with the likes of Rosemary West and Myra Hindley, Vanessa Frake thought she’d seen just about everything. That was until she was transferred to the notorious Wormwood Scrubs as head of security and operations. Thrust into a ‘man’s world’, her no nonsense approach and fearless attitude saw her rise through the ranks, as she engaged in daily battles of the wits with both inmates and staff.

This was one of the best books I have ever read. Funny and interesting, wonderful performance by the author. I loved it. When she was describing feeling nervous before and actually meeting the Queen, I cried. It inspired me to follow my own dreams to work as a prison guard. Thank you, miss Frake.

The wokeness turned me away
Revisado: 02-27-23
I highly doubt that the evil entity, whatever it was, called Elijah “they/them”. It was a challenge for me to realise what the woman was talking about, when she kept adressing the child in plural. This woke nonsense made me stop listening in the middle of the story.

A cult of stupid rich people
Revisado: 11-22-22
At first I thought that there would be a lot worse things the cult did, but they weren't even that bad, compared to some other ones. The intro into the episode was a bit too dramatic for it. The worst thing about them is their stupidity in attempting to produce and use chemical weapons.
This wasn't your best episode, but only because of the topic. Everything else is good, as usual. :)

Historia
Shortly after moving into their new home, the Snedeker family is assaulted by a sinister presence that preys one-by-one on their family. Exhausting all other resources, they call up the world-renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, who have never encountered a case as frightening as this.

I just lost a bit of hope for humanity
Revisado: 11-16-22
And it is not because of the supposed demonic activity. The Snedekers must be in the running for the title of worst parents in the world, right after Freddie and Rosie. Also in the competition is Carmen’s sister, who moved her daughters into a home, where they were continually being raped by a demon, just because “she was going through a tough divorce”.
1. The first half of the book revolves around their poor son Steven, who, aside from getting cancer, was obviously being possessed to a certain point and felt the house was “wrong” from the beginning.. After continually yelling at him to stop talking about the haunting, they finally had him locked up into a mental hospital and never spoke of him again. So, what, whas he possessed, or schizofrenic? Did he take the demon with him to the hospital? Did he survive? Wtf happened to him?
2. Who lets their children live in constant fear and suffer physical attacks, and not believe them when told about it??
3. Who moves into a former funeral home and forces their children to live in a room, that was used as a morgue and autopsy room?
4. The descriptions of the supposed funeral home were downright insulting for the bussiness. There is no blood spraying the walls, as noone is getting killed. The blood doesn’t gush anywhere, when a person is dead. There is no torture and no dying in the house - the “visitors” are already dead.
The hypocrisy and lack of parental abilities of the Snedekers is the truly haunting experience of this book. Also, the narrator makes female voices sounds like a cartoon.
I love the Warrens and their work, but this book is not worth the credit. There must be a better way of finding out what really happened in that house.

I love the stories, and the calm voice of the narrator. It's a lovely podcast.
I don't like the 5 minutes of the intro before every story, but I just skip that.
