Historia
Exploring the relationship between Christianity and Zen, especially through his dialogue with the great Zen teacher D.T. Suzuki, the book makes an excellent introduction to a comparative study of these two traditions, as well as giving the listener a strong taste of the mature Merton. Never does one feel him losing his own faith; rather, one feels that faith getting deeply clarified and affirmed. Just as the body of "Zen" cannot be found by the scavengers, so too, Merton suggests, with the eternal truth of Christ.

a great book for those with a Christian belief
Revisado: 04-09-22
this book was a great read, he drew a lot of parallels between Christianity and Buddhism. As a Freemason I got a lot out of this book as it draws a lot of parallels also with the Masonic teachings.

Historia
Setting down his thoughts on swordplay, on winning, and on spirituality, legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi intended this modest work as a guide for his immediate disciples and future generations of samurai. He had little idea he was penning a masterpiece that would be eagerly devoured by people in all walks of life centuries after his death.

A book I've been waiting for
Revisado: 03-20-22
ever since I heard about this book I've been waiting to read/listen to it. finally got it on audible and enjoyed it immensely. I've never thought about Buddhism, especially Zen, from a martial arts point of view, but this was a great understanding of it.

An Enlightening Lecture
Revisado: 07-18-21
this audiobook surprised me with it's incredible content and the knowledge of the presenter. if you are looking to understand Zen Buddhism, or Buddhism in general, 5h8s is an amazing way to do it, and even better then the Buddhism for Dummies book (which is amazing too).
if you are coming from a Christian perspective, this is a great audiobook for you, as the presenter intertwines the two to help you understand the many similarities between them.
if you want to know more, get this audiobook... you won't be dissatisfied

Always a great read/listen
Revisado: 06-07-19
Gary's way of dealing with life is head on, and his books (especially the audio books) don't change a thing about him. He's an amazing motivator and I love his work. If you cannot handle the truth, these books may not be for you. Gary makes you take a hard look at yourself, and reminds you that all the problems you have in life are from you. I look forward to his next book and hope it is as forceful as this and the prior one.

Historia
Five hundred years before the birth of Jesus, a God-realized being named Lao-tzu in ancient China dictated 81 verses, which are regarded by many as the ultimate commentary on the nature of our existence. The classic text of these 81 verses, called the Tao Te Ching or the Great Way, offers advice and guidance that is balanced, moral, spiritual, and always concerned with working for the good.
