good story, marred by mispronunciations

Enjoyed it, but the narrator consistently mispronounces Coeur d'Alene (should be core da lane, more or less, not lean) and Spokane (spo-can, not cane), as well as a few other words here and there.

A refreshing change of pace

It's rare to read a romance novel that acknowledges the difficulties in real relationships, but this one does. First, while the MCs admire each other from afar for quite some time, neither of them realizes the other is looking. It's only when one finally gets up the nerve to approach the other, not certain if he's even interested in men, that things begin - almost a missed opportunity. Once started, they must deal with their individual baggage, but matters proceed quickly...too quickly, perhaps, because when conflict inevitably arises, they lack the tools and solid foundation to handle it, and split for a time. To go into detail about what happens then would start too far into spoiler territory, but rest assured that there is a happy ending, despite the rocky middle.

Continuing Adventures

If you haven't read Ignite, do that first.

In Smolder, our trio continues to learn about themselves, each other, and the aliens who have invaded. Winter arrives, bringing new challenges to their safety and survival.

This does not suffer from the incomplete feeling some middle books have, although it's also not a stand-alone - you should definitely read the first one first, and like me, you'll be eager for book 3, but it's not a cliffhanger ending. Book 3, Burn, is available as an eBook now; I look forward to the audio release.

A fitting end

While there is sadness along the way, this is a satisfying end to the series, giving all our boys their HEA and setting up the next series.

The battle continues

I listened to this immediately after book 2, which has the unfortunate result of blending the plots in my memory a bit, so I may accidentally reference elements of the previous book as though they were in this one.

After many struggles, Sebastian and Ailin have mostly settled in to their relationship. Seb learns he can trust Ailin, something difficult for him because of his background. Since they are mostly settled, thus book turns to Emrys and his vampire lover, Julian, who struggle to find the truth of their relationship while the curse continues to unfold.

I enjoyed thus book, and look forward to the next!

Not as good as the first

Narration still bad, though maybe a little better that in the first. Story was not as good as the first; a lot of boring introspection - introspection is not always boring, but most of this bored me - and some very preachy bits, which seemed unnecessary; anyone reading gay romance is unlikely to need the message.

Nice to see a story dealing with love through trauma and disability, without a magic cure, but the narration is terrible - flat, mispronounced words, almost robotic.

Read this one instead of listening if possible.

Wonderful

I love this series, and River is my favorite character, so of course I love this book. Lots of drama and angst along the way to the happy ending -- stalkers and baggage make their relationship complicated, but they break through all the barriers in the end.
