more awesome. very nice tale. great series. really wish the audible team would hire a female reader for the female parts and they would cut out the ridiculous accents. other than that, the series is great.

Their seemingly simple quest to reunite with a long-lost friend is now inexorably bound up with the fate of the empire itself. Great book. Needs attention on Audible.
Revisado: 04-28-25
The story is compelling as a slice of life tale about a daughter leaving home and growing up and a Dad who has to keep going.
The only issue is the narrator. He's not horrible. He knows how to do the reading. The problem is that his reading sometimes is very garbled and low, making you have to rewind in order to figure out what he's saying.

Historia
Belgrieve's return to Turnera has been marked by many brushes with larger-than-life figures, including a legendary adventurer, an elven princess, and a mysterious foundling with mystical powers. In the midst of all of this, Belgrieve is forced to confront unresolved old feelings about his past that have smoldered within him since his adventuring days came to an end so long ago. Meanwhile, after resuming her adventuring life in the big city, Angeline has done her father the dubious service of seeking out prospective brides for him (to no avail).

The only problem is the narrator. I'm mostly reviewing the choice of voice readers here. I really wish they had gone for a female voice reader for the female parts. The masculine nasally whine every woman takes on breaks from immersion.
Also, while the voice reader is generally good for the male roles there are times I had to rewind and still had to check the Kindle written version to verify what he was saying. In those instances I was wondering if he was talking with a mouth full of marbles, or maybe he was sneaking a sandwich between takes and hadn't cleared it out before resuming the recording. If audible has a sound tech, please sharpen the voice on these!

My issue is with the normalizing of physical violence and s*xual assault because the victim is male.
Revisado: 04-14-25
this protagonist is unlikable, but that's not my issue. my issue with this series is the way the MC gets beaten up by his so-called love interest, enslaved, ordered to perform sexually for his abuser, and then act like it's just a normal relationship. in a previous volume, his so called love interest drugs him and allows her friends to gang r*pe him, and it's just glossed over like it's just a cultural difference. later, he's r*ped by another woman and a group of slime monsters suggestively in the backside and then him memory is erased so he doesn't have to live with that knowledge. all this is made to seem like nothing because he's a man and should deal with it and the MC just goes along with it instead of being sickened and disgusted by his captors.

Great narration at first
Revisado: 08-18-24
Ok. Great listen mostly, but come on. They can do a male and female narration with harem porn ligh novels from candy d list writers. Why did they not spring for hiring a the Hajime voice actor and the Yue voice actress to play the mal and female roles? Feels like a wasted opportunity.

Such a bad performance...
Revisado: 05-31-23
Black Summoner as an anime is a middle of the pack isekai struggling for room in a very saturated market. The light novel would probably be better to read, you might think. Well, sure, if you can put the voices in your mind and imagine that, great.
This audible is NOT anything like that. Don't get me wrong. This narrator would be GREAT if he were verbalizing a dictionary, an encyclopedia, a medical textbook, or anything technical. Unfortunately, this is a genre that really requires depth of voice and the ability to emote.
Peeves:
#1) Female characters are difficult to separate from the male ones as the narrator only heightens his voice a fraction of a percent. The only way you can tell they are female is when they say stereotypical things like, "Honey," etc..
#2) Narration of sounds should be loud if they are meant to be loud, not equal in tone and speed to everything else. "He folded clothes bored," and "He smashed his fist into the monster's face! BLAMMM" should not be read in the same monotone.
Battles that are supposed to be high-paced action have the feel of a meeting at the library.
#3) Attitude of this narrative altogether feels like, yeah, I've got to read this... bleh,,, light novel... Whatever... Not excited, not concerned, not intrigued, not enrapt in wonder. Think, watching paint dry and having to narrate it, what THAT might sound like, applied to this unfortunate book.
#4) The story starts off very trope-heavy. When there is a LOT of trope, one should avoid highlighting it with a tongue-in-cheek meta-commentary on how trope-heavy isekai stories are... It's laborious. Don't let that deter you from reading the kindle version, though. It gets better.
#5) The way isekai cheat "heroes" can act like their word is law and their perspective is right because someone handed them cheat powers is annoying. You can't claim the character earned anything if they are given massive advantages right from the start that no other character in the book can ever hope to attain. That can get preachy and self-serving, like the author writing wish-fulfillment.

All the women sound like nasally caricatures women and they're done poorly with the worst kind of inflection. if this wasn't sold for real I would have thought that this narration was a joke considering how bad it is.
