Strangely unsatisfying ending

I have to agree with what many other reviewers said - while the writing style is engaging, and the characters interesting - the story ends up in the air, with hints of foreboding but no resolution at all. This seems completely out of sync with MC Beaton’s usual style - it’s as if the last few chapters unexpectedly fell off the caboose of the story. I’m hoping that the next book in the series is more true to her established form.

Wonderful addition to a cherished series

For lovers of Penric and Desdemona, this newest installment doesn’t disappoint. With her signature wisdom, humor, and insight Bujold unspools this delightful tale with all our beloved favorite characters, as well as a few interesting new ones. Grover Gardner, as usual, creates his magic, bringing warmth, depth and exactly the right balance of heartfelt pleasure and poignancy. Altogether satisfying and enjoyable!
