But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of 13 dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on a journey ‘there and back again’. They have a plot to raid the treasure hoard of Smaug the Magnificent, a large and very dangerous dragon....

Historia
When a detested viscount is found murdered by the banks of the Thames and Charlie Hastings becomes the prime suspect, Barnaby and Penelope Adair join forces with Stokes to discover the real story behind the unexpected killing. Charlie Hastings is astonished to find himself accused of murdering Viscount Sedbury. Admittedly, Charlie had two heated altercations with Sedbury in the hours preceding the man’s death, but as Charlie is quick to point out to Stokes—and to Barnaby and Penelope—there are a multitude of others in the ton who will be delighted to learn of Sedbury’s demise.

I always love the stories of Barnaby Adair, his wife Penelope and the Stokes couple. This one has the added plus of a righteous ending. What's not to like.
An excellent performance by Napoleon Ryan.

A soundtrack played in my mind as I listened
Revisado: 03-24-24
Amazing. I laughed, I cried and I felt thoroughly entertained. Somehow a few songs kept playing on repeat in my head as I listened to Ryan West telling this story. 1. Richard Marx: Right Here Waiting. 2. Roxette: It Must Have Been Love. 3. Carly Simon: Nobody Does It Better.
Thank you, Lexi and Ryan. You keep me coming back for more.

I have loved listening to this story of a period when we usually are treated to the men's interpretation.
Good idea to make it a sort of diary frm Margaret's own hand. It provided an insight into the relations between her and her surroundings.

Historia
August 1939: London is dismal under the weight of impending war with Germany as Hitler’s forces continue to sweep across Europe. Into this uncertain maelstrom steps Grace Bennett, young and ready for a fresh start in the bustling city streets she’s always dreamed of - and miles away from her troubled past in the countryside. With aspirations of working at a department store, Grace never imagined she’d wind up employed at Primrose Hill, an offbeat bookshop nestled in the heart of the city - after all, she’s never been much of a reader.

I am completely bowled over by this story of London during the Blitz.
The characters are three dimensional and strobgly narrated. I fell into this book in much the same way Grace tumbled into The Count of Monte Christo.
Very much worth the read.

Historia
When she was suddenly given the opportunity of a new life in rural Jutland, journalist and archetypal Londoner Helen Russell discovered a startling statistic: the happiest place on earth isn't Disneyland but Denmark, a land often thought of by foreigners as consisting entirely of long, dark winters, cured herring, Lego and pastries. What is the secret to their success? Are happy Danes born or made?

I have nodded, laughed and found a lot of truth in this narrative. This look at Denmark from the outsider looking in is a really enjoyable and understanding picture of what makes Danes so happy in everyday life.
Well done Helen Russell.
