Fascinating POV about mental health and complex relationships

I have yet to read (or listen to) a book by Carian Cole that I haven’t loved. The complexity of her characters and her ability to create both a narrative world and a story that absolutely draw you in is phenomenal. I’m off to triple check - I think I may have now read all of her titles. This one was on my list FOREVER and I kept passing it by. It was a bit slower than some (and to be fair I’m super busy without as much time for audiobooks at the moment) but I’ve been invested in Piper and Blue for weeks now whenever I get the chance. Watching Piper grow up, mature and stay true to her feelings while also balancing all the rest of her life was a journey I’m glad I took. Excellent!!!

Parenting does become part of the story - that often is appealing to me and I didn’t realize it from the blurb (or didn’t read closely enough) and that added a whole other dimension to my connection with the story that I really enjoyed.

Intense, so many triggers, amazing story

I wonder if I might have given up on this one if I wasn’t already invested in the other characters - I was introduced to the series in Don’t Kiss the Bride where there is a brief crossover cameo and some references to Ashes and Embers. There is a LOT more sex than I expected heading into this story after enjoying Storm and Evelyn’s tale and so much pain for both characters - but still I stayed. I’m glad I did. Looking forward to the rest of the series!

Jude "Lucky" Lucketti wasn't just a sexy, brooding construction worker. He was my own personal hero, showing up in all the right places at the right times. Like when my car broke down and I needed a ride home, and when I face-planted on the sidewalk right in front of him and had to be taken to the emergency room. We became friends, and it didn't matter that he was 16 years older than me. We had a lot in common - like our love of old rock music and vintage fast cars and our aversion to relationships.

There is so much I loved about this story but one thing that stood out is how the author addressed serious issues like mental health challenges and addiction. Just one part of a persons story. I can’t believe how much time I managed to make to listen to this!!!

The female voice actor was distracting for me :/

I enjoy a lot about this authors stories and have read a LOT of them though I can’t binge an entire series without a break as there are just too many similarities in the formula of the stories. While I enjoy the character development it’s a given they will be kidnapped and saved. The rest of the package is great so I keep coming back. I listened to previous titles in the series after reading others on kindle and the female voice actor made me choose to go back to reading vs listening.
