Historia
As Julia Child once said, “It is hard to imagine a civilization without onions.” Historically, she’s been right—and not just in the kitchen. Uniquely flourishing in just about every climate and culture around the world, onions have provided the essential basis not only for sautés, stews, and stir fries, but for medicines, metaphors, and folklore. Abundantly commonplace yet extraordinarily indispensable, the onion is Kurlansky's newest global food fixation as he sets out to explore how and why the crop reigns over Wales to Italy and everywhere in between.

Having read (and listened to) many of MK's books, I have thoroughly enjoyed The Core of an Onion. While I am hoping to see these recipes in print (from my local library's district order), I have committed to memory loads of ideas for my kitchen. The historical significance of MK's heartfelt

Unique and Hard to Forget
Revisado: 12-31-24
this novel is one of the best Lincoln and Child stories. having heard or read nearly all of them, i found this to be among the three or four most imaginative. between the settings of a Tibetan monastary and a gargantuan cruise ship, Pendergast and Green leave an extraordinary impression on the listener. Rene Auberjonois is a fantastic reader whose talents are perfectly suited to this series. i can highly recommend this audiobook to anyone who enjoys a great, if haunting, listen.

Historia
Tiffany Aching has spent years studying with senior witches, and now she is on her own. As the witch of the Chalk, she performs the bits of witchcraft that aren't sparkly, aren't fun, don't involve any kind of wand, and that people seldom ever hear about: She does the unglamorous work of caring for the needy. But someone - or something - is igniting fear, inculcating dark thoughts and angry murmurs against witches.

Dunno if there's a numeric limit to the list of
"Classic Novels", but if there be, it must be a
number greater than that of Sir Terry's works.
The Tiffany books are at or near the top of
that list, especially because they're written
for all ages, for EVERY age, and for "the ages".
You will not find a wittier dialogue, a more
original grouping of stories, or a better cast
of characters in all of English literature. If
you purchase this audiobook, you will likely
want to hear it multiple times and praise it,
recommending it to loved ones as well as to

Paper is one of the simplest and most essential pieces of human technology. For the past two millennia, the ability to produce it in ever more efficient ways has supported the proliferation of literacy, media, religion, education, commerce, and art; it has formed the foundation of civilizations, promoting revolutions and restoring stability.

I learned a lot.
Revisado: 10-07-22
Paper is a great book. It's just what I've come to expect from Kurlansky's books. I learned so much about a thing I use every day. The free association bank is full now whenever I think about trees or napkins or office work. This is a great way to enrich my life. Anyone could benefit from reading it.

He just didn’t know how to get there. In Upon Reflection, hear the singular talent trace his unlikely rise from his days as a young husband and father working as a local schoolteacher, to risking everything on a fateful move to London, and joining an aspiring punk band called The Police.

Excellent presentation of an awkward story.
Revisado: 10-09-21
Dan built this novel from some interesting perspectives. Pretty "WASP"-y in general design, but fulfills also the requisite ex-discipleism and theory of conspiracy wrought in his most popular tomes. I could loosely avow myself a fan, yet in the way that I am a fan of corned beef and cabbage. Overall, a pretty decent adventure book with some humanitarian and scientific overtures, some romance and lust, heroism, and external as well as internal conflict. The characters are in keeping with the idealistic trend of its novel era, and the settings are clearly chosen with regard to personal and physical research abroad. It warrants consideration for being among the short list of popular novelists at Dan's peak time of publishing. In tune, happy listening.

Historia
Special Agent Pendergast arrives at an exclusive Colorado ski resort to rescue his protégée, Corrie Swanson, from serious trouble with the law. His sudden appearance coincides with the first attack of a murderous arsonist who - with brutal precision - begins burning down multimillion-dollar mansions with the families locked inside. After springing Corrie from jail, Pendergast learns she made a discovery while examining the bones of several miners who were killed 150 years earlier by a rogue grizzly bear.

Revisado: 10-08-21
When either reading or listening to any of these Pendergast tales, I am truly transported with amazing absorbtion to profound provinces, among unique, peculiar characters and and intense scenery. Together with Aubergenois, these two veteran authors have again shown their fine skills in producing this, another, successful listening experience. Keep up the good work, gentlemen.

Since the days of conquistador Hernán Cortés, rumors have circulated about a lost city of immense wealth hidden somewhere in the Honduran interior, called the White City or the Lost City of the Monkey God. Indigenous tribes speak of ancestors who fled there to escape the Spanish invaders, and they warn that anyone who enters this sacred city will fall ill and die.

Revisado: 09-05-21
The history contained in this book is, alone, eye-opening. I was mesmerized throughout the telling of early connections made between the "old and new worlds". And the adventure and aftermath of the author's descent into the jungle shook my preconceptions of modern exploration. Finally, this book FORETOLD the Covid-19 pandemic! I am truly grateful to have listened to this production. Please give it a listen -- you will NOT be disappointed!

Exciting, and worth a listen.
Revisado: 09-03-21
Not their best novel, nor their best presentation, but we'll worth a listen. Appears to be a necessary lead-in to a subsequent volume of Pendergast's story. Well-written with a few questionable plot twists. Follows a somewhat far-fetched scenario, yet imaginable. Characters are excellent, and description of Savannah keen and endearing. I do recommend this listen as well as all the previous ones I've encountered, about 22. Enjoy.
