Here we go again...
Revisado: 05-23-22
I read that one reviewer said they think they were getting these books out of loyalty, I agree with that statement, as I too have been purchasing out of loyalty. I said the last one would be my last one, but here I am. Jake is getting progressively stupider and more obnoxious. Every time she attempts to do something, I can predict the disastrous outcome. You would think as many times as she has gotten herself into a life-threatening predicaments, she would learn a little something, but no, not Jake. This story makes no sense to me. I enjoyed the home repair series very much, but with this series the characters do not remotely resemble their characters in the previous series.

Historia
Jake and Ellie have been through a lot together, from home repair to homicide investigation. So when they decide to open a chocolate-themed bakery, they figure it'll be a piece of cake. With Ellie's old family recipes luring in customers, they expect to make plenty of dough this Fourth of July weekend. Having family home for the holiday only sweetens the deal for Jake - that is, until the ill wind of an early-season hurricane blows up her family's plans. But as bitter as the storm is, something even more sinister is brewing in the kitchen of The Chocolate Moose - where health inspector Matt Muldoon is found murdered.

Missing Lyndsey Ellison
Revisado: 02-28-22
I am so glad for more adventures from Jake and Ellie. I enjoyed the story, but boy, do I miss Lyndsey Ellison! I miss Ellie's formerly sweet voice the most. There were several inconsistencies in the story that frustrated me. The first I noticed was George was no longer the island go-to guy, that's ok, but I wish there was an explanation as to why he was replaced in this role. The second was when Jake took in the dog. There was never a mention of their beloved Monday and Prill, the story implied that they hadn't had any dogs before. I was beginning to wonder about little Lee, but she was finally mentioned much later in the story. Also, Ellie's character was so different from the way we're used to seeing her. Ellie didn't appear to be as level-headed as she was in the Home Repair series. Susan Boyce did a decent job, but I was so distracted by the narrator's lisp-not making fun, I have one, too. When she was speaking as a character in the book, she didn't lisp, but when she was narrating it was very noticeable. I really enjoyed the story, but I haven't decided yet if I will continue listening, or will read the remaining books in this series.

Historia
The infamous Dodd murders are hardly among Eastport's proudest legacies. So when bestselling true-crime author Carolyn Rathbone arrives to research the case for a new book, the locals in the seaside town let her know that she's about as welcome as a spoiled clam. But surely no one would harm a crime writer out of a sense of civic pride--or would they?

Not Sarah's best
Revisado: 01-12-22
I have listened to, and enjoyed, all of Sarah Graves's Home Repair Is Homicide mysteries. This one, however, bored me to tears. I will finish it, because I've already invested so much time in it, but I'm really in a hurry to see it end. I don't know how it's going to end, but I just found myself thinking "kill her already, gees!" This is just too much cat-and-mouse. The bright spot is Lindsay Ellison's narration; as always, she is perfection.
