Historia
In May 1937, a man in his early 30s waits by the lift of a Leningrad apartment block. He waits all through the night, expecting to be taken away to the Big House. Any celebrity he has known in the previous decade is no use to him now, and few who are taken to the Big House ever return.

Horrible.
Revisado: 04-14-25
I tried repeatedly to get through this book and couldn’t do it. It was confusing, rambling, uninteresting, and not memorable. I just learned that nearly every other member of my book club felt the same way. Don’t buy this book.

Historia
New York, 2022. Jessa Gidney is trying to have it all—a high-powered legal career, a meaningful marriage, and hopefully, one day, a child. But when her professional ambitions come up short and Jessa finds herself at a turning point, she leans into her family's history of activism by taking on pro bono work at a nearby ICE detention center. There she meets Isobel Pérez—a young mother fighting to stay with her daughter—but as she gets to know Isobel, an unsettling revelation about Isobel's health leads Jessa to uncover a horrifying pattern of medical malpractice within the detention facility.

Brilliant. Timely. Compelling. A MUST read.
Revisado: 03-29-25
The author artfully addresses incredibly timely and important issues including eugenics, women’s and immigrants’ rights and much more, along with the myriad complexities of human relationships, skillfully weaving them all together in a compelling, well written story that will both educate and entertain you, and keep you wanting to read more. I couldn’t put it down and will be recommending it to my book club. A MUST read.

Historia
The Latecomer follows the story of the wealthy, New York City-based Oppenheimer family, from the first meeting of parents Salo and Johanna, under tragic circumstances, to their triplets born during the early days of IVF. As children, the three siblings—Harrison, Lewyn, and Sally—feel no strong familial bond and cannot wait to go their separate ways, even as their father becomes more distanced and their mother more desperate. When the triplets leave for college, Johanna, faced with being truly alone, makes the decision to have a fourth child.
