Historia
On November 6, 1860, Abraham Lincoln became the fluky victor in a tight race for president. The country was bitterly at odds; Southern extremists were moving ever closer to destroying the Union, with one state after another seceding and Lincoln powerless to stop them. Slavery fueled the conflict, but somehow the passions of North and South came to focus on a lonely federal fortress in Charleston Harbor: Fort Sumter.

This is just not my style. Larson, could be yours. He is just not mine. I don't really care for the reader either. There is nothing really wrong with the book or reader. I don't want to be to critical because it is more style preference than anything else.

These are fun mind candies worth listening to about the USA's greatest period, WWII.

Standard Modern MarySue Stuff
Revisado: 05-16-24
I was looking for an alternate history book when I came across tlthis book. I like some of Stirling's stuff but this was just bad. The antagonist was a typical MarySue. Every time some issue came up she had a specific teaching from her parents or "The Mentor". Was the best at every weapon and skill. And spoke every language under the sun and was able to understand subtle linguistic differences to identify the entire life history of a person. To end it all off, MarySue is a lesbian about to groom a younger girl. Pure dreck.
As for the alternate history... the basic change in history, Teddy Roosevelt winning a 3rd term, is a great starting point. Then it became basically WW2 moved up ~25 years.
Summary: Wish I had the time spent on this book back.

The Death of a Series That Started With Such Promise
Revisado: 01-25-24
The first book in the series introduced you to a very interesting, developed, and thought provoking world. However, as the series went on the story just went down the formalic plot points for the "modern audiences ".(You know the ones that don't support anything) So, it is not surprising that a series that started out so well and probably gone on for seven (7) or more books has come to such an abrupt end. I really hope it was Hearne's publishers that pushed him down this disastrous path. If it was Hearne's decision (which I am afraid it was) then either A) he has learned his lesson and goes back to classical story telling or B) I find another author who has such talent and support them.
As for the narrators, it did not seem like their hearts' were in this one either.

Historia
In 1307, as they struggled to secure their last strongholds in the Kingdom of Jerusalem, the Templars fell afoul of the vindictive and impulsive king of France. On Friday, October 13, hundreds of brothers were arrested en masse, imprisoned, tortured, and disbanded amid accusations of lurid sexual misconduct and heresy. They were tried by the Vatican in secret proceedings. But were they heretics or victims of a ruthlessly repressive state?

Ninth century Iceland. Three explorers from the far future have a daunting mission: To save humanity, they must build a craft capable of reaching the stars. The Voyage of The Iron Dragon is the concluding book in The Iron Dragon trilogy. The Iron Dragon trilogy is being produced as part of the phenomenally successful saga of The Iron Dragon Kickstarter, which raised over $10,000. Meticulously researched and packed with action, The Dream of The Iron Dragon is a must for sci-fi and alternate history fans.

Make the bad man stop writing
Revisado: 05-23-23
The pacing of this book is horrendous. The character development / arcs are none existent. Most of it is written as an after action report not characters interacting or doing things. The narrator is a nasally almost monotone bore. You should not waste a credit or money on this book. Do not make the mistake I made buying and listening to this book.

These books keep getting worse
Revisado: 05-23-23
The first book in the series, The Iron Dragon, was ok, and I hoped the author would improve with this book. If anything he got worse. Their is less character development and interaction and more of an after action report feel to large chunks of the book. The narrator is subpar and is almost the equivalent of "Bueller? Bueller?". I wanted a different narrator but hope was crushed mercilessly beneath the heel of reality. Save your money or credit and stop at book 1. Don't make the mistake I made.

Revisado: 05-02-23
I always like Lawhead's books. The King Raven series is an enjoyable take on the Robin Hood tale. It is also always nice to hear / read a story that is not afraid to have religion in it and portrays it in a non-negative light.
