Historia
"Dude! It finally came!" My roommate barely withheld his excitement as he barreled into the living room of our apartment with a package in his hand. "Check it out, Jacob." He smiled as he tore at the brown paper surrounding his purchase. As he ripped the covering off the package, bits and pieces scattered all across the floor of the living room like confetti. For a second, I thought about lecturing Todd about not making a mess of our apartment, but who was I kidding? This place was already a shithole. At least some half-assed confetti would make it feel a little livelier.

Revisado: 09-16-19
I love the succubus myth. They were literally my favorite D&D monster, but man I just couldn't get past the cringe of this story during the first few chapters. It reads like an author jerking himself off to a vapid self-indulgent fantasy... which sounds great for him, but I just can't watch... hey maybe it's not that bad when I think of it that way...
Anyhow some people seem to like it I guess. I couldn't get into it. It reads like middle-school D&D fan fiction to me, but what do I know. Good for you you wrote a book. Maybe it gets better.

I read this when it first came out in 1992 and forgot how amazing it is.
it is in some ways my favorite of the chronicles but I say that every time I finish re-reading or liatening to one.
of course there's a difference between reading it in college in the 90s in my early 20s and having Simon Vance read it to me now in my late 40s. but it still gives me the same feeling of rich immersion that it always had.

Historia
An acclaimed critic argues that video games are the most vital art form of our time. Video games have seemingly taken over our lives. Whereas gamers once constituted a small and largely male subculture, today 67 percent of American households play video games. The average gamer is now 34 years old and spends eight hours each week playing - and there is a 40 percent chance this person is a woman. In Bit by Bit, Andrew Ervin sets out to understand the explosive popularity of video games.

Thoughtful and current from someone who had an Atari like me. I too had younger people walk me through Minecraft... and wtfed at the gamergate bs. not to worry a book you have to actually pay attention to or read is a perfect place to hide such criticism.

Historia
When Carrie Fisher recently discovered the journals she kept during the filming of the first Star Wars movie, she was astonished to see what they had preserved—plaintive love poems, unbridled musings with youthful naiveté, and a vulnerability that she barely recognized. Today, her fame as an author, actress, and pop-culture icon is indisputable, but in 1977, Carrie Fisher was just a teenager with an all-consuming crush on her costar, Harrison Ford.

If male chauvinist pigs of years past thought of women as pieces of meat, Female Chauvinist Pigs of today are doing them one better. They think they're being brave, they think they're being funny, but in Female Chauvinist Pigs, Ariel Levy asks if the joke is on them.

Revisado: 05-28-14
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Depends on the friend... The book is the very explicit story of a major porn star.
Would you be willing to try another book from Asa Akira? Why or why not?
I doubt it. Kind of seems like she'd be a one trick pony book wise.
What does Asa Akira bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She reads well and expressively. She'd probably be a pretty ok actress. I believe she likes what she does. I think some of it was just sort of trying to pander to her fans and not really genuine. I found it kind of um... patronizing? but overall ok.
Was Insatiable worth the listening time?
eh It was OK. It had some funny parts.
Any additional comments?
eh...

Historia
For thousands of years, the faithful have honed proselytizing strategies and talked people into believing the truth of one holy book or another. Indeed, the faithful often view converting others as an obligation of their faith - and are trained from an early age to spread their unique brand of religion. The result is a world broken in large part by unquestioned faith. As an urgently needed counter to this tried-and-true tradition of religious evangelism, this audiobook offers the first-ever guide not for talking people into faith - but for talking them out of it.

He had me for most of the way...
Revisado: 02-11-14
Is there anything you would change about this book?
...Then by violating one of his previous rules: Don't get into politics.. .he lost me. I was fine with how he talked to believers and decided to treat faith or "pretending to know something you don't actually know" as a or the problem.
But then in a later chapter, violating a suggested rule he really should have stuck to himself, he went on a near non sequitur rant about the evils of "academic leftism" that would have made Glenn Beck proud.
What was most disappointing about Peter Boghossian’s story?
Should have stuck to the subject of faith and religion instead of delving into politics. Ironically he warned that would turn off potential converts earlier in the book --and most certainly proved that to be true with his own digression.
It's as if somebody else started writing around chapter 13.
The word "homophobe" is the result of an evil "tolerance" that has been adopted by the "academic left?" Really? Phobia is what you call in irrational fear. Get over it.
If intolerance is one of the main criticisms of adopting a belief in organized religion, then doesn't it follow that we shouldn't emulate that aspect?

Their story takes us through a maze of dead ends and exhilarating breakthroughs as they and their colleagues wrestle not only with the abstraction of code but with the unpredictability of human behavior, especially their own. Along the way, we encounter black holes, turtles, snakes, dragons, axe-sharpening, and yak-shaving - and take a guided tour through the theories and methods, both brilliant and misguided, that litter the history of software development, from the famous "mythical man-month" to Extreme Programming.

A must read for programmers, software developers..
Revisado: 08-12-13
What made the experience of listening to Dreaming in Code the most enjoyable?
This book will make any programmer who's worked on professional projects realize if he or she didn't know already... you are not alone. This book "gets it." and gets it in a way that's entertaining for the most part and gives just enough detail to make sense even to the non-programmer.
What did you like best about this story?
The slid in explanations of computer science concepts as they pertain to the story.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
His voice is a little harsh sometimes. He wouldn't be a good smooth jazz dj let's just say.
