very friggin scary!!

I enjoyed this read! I'm sorta surprised that many of the biggies haven't chimed in about how great this book is! True, a haunted house story among millions (and I've probably read half of those 😱) but this one definitely has panache and truly scary horror. No figuring out til the end.. and even then??

I thought this a pretty delicious haunted house book. I noticed the near lack of profanity, tho I am very profane myself at times. Could be considered a good YA book, maybe. A good read mostly.

I thought it was great the dude hung in there the whole way through his wife's ordeal. i mean I know he felt some onus, too, but I don't know if I personally could've stuck -- that was sincerely svar sh**! That first part with 'Carrot' the friggin parrot... wow

Needful Things anybody?

The book was pretty decent, but couldn't help thinking of the story line of the Stephen King book 'Needful Things' most of the way thru. As depraved as it sounds, it definitely has its humorous parts, but I think the S. King audiobook mentioned is hilarious, with the help of the narratorbeing the man himself !

Very tense going oftentimes. Friggin creepy!

It was a kinda strange read. The 2 main male characters came across as the obnoxious a**holes they are, and so well performed I hated their guts! Thought book was tres Scary! But I get what folks said about overlong character explanations and kinda slow other places in book, too. Annoying!! I speeded up playback several times to just Get On With It!

I think this book was great! Grady Hendrix never lets me down. Once I started it, I listened almost nonstop. Many edge of your seat moments. Rock On and Write On Mr. Hendrix, please keep em coming!

and again...what's up with the NARRATOR?

I, too, love this book. Read it first when it came out back in the late 60s. But, I thought at first the narration was a joke or something, what with the lisp and the tone and different character voices, etc. Having read other comments here relating to this narrator, I think Audible owes us a NEW NARRATOR for this most favorite story of so many. What do ya say Audible? Can you folks at Audible not hear what went on with this audio version of this book? Really.

Always loved H.G. Wells and very much enjoyed the Orson Welleses' dramatization of War of the Worlds. Very cool book Mr. Luke...your first novel and my first Audible audiobook review!
