Solid but light
Revisado: 10-23-24
Ignoring the reading performance which is, frankly, boring, the content is shallow. It's good, but shallow. Lots of words to make a small point. This is a real missed oportunity. Our maybe the depth was there, but I tuned out to often to hear it.

Narrator ruins it
Revisado: 03-02-24
I made it through because of the quality of content. But the narrator is frankly awful. Almost no emotion. No timing for impact. Minimal intonation.
Content is great though.

Historia
Many famed music producers are known for a particular sound that has its day. Rick Rubin is known for something else: creating a space where artists of all different genres and traditions can home in on who they really are and what they really offer. He has made a practice of helping people transcend their self-imposed expectations in order to reconnect with a state of innocence from which the surprising becomes inevitable. Over the years, he has learned that being an artist isn’t about your specific output, it’s about your relationship to the world.

It's a self help book, not what I hoped for
Revisado: 03-02-24
To be fair I only got about an hour in, I stopped listening to this kind of self help in my 20s. Might suit some, but like most self help it's personal opinion applied in a generalist way without any understanding that we are all individuals.

Content is good. Production is awful.
Revisado: 03-28-22
It's really hard to concentrate when the audio switches microphone and environment for short periods multiple times a chapter. Often in mid sentence. This sentence, could for example, start in one audio space, switch to another, then back again.
Is akin to a printed book changing font size, style and color mid sentence.

Historia
The Simulation Hypothesis, by best-selling author, renowned MIT computer scientist, and Silicon Valley video game designer Rizwan Virk, explains one of the most daring and consequential theories of our time. Drawing from research and concepts from computer science, artificial intelligence, video games, quantum physics, and referencing both speculative fiction and ancient eastern spiritual texts, Virk shows how all of these traditions come together to point to the idea that we may be inside a simulated reality like the Matrix.

Lacks imagination
Revisado: 01-17-21
This is nothing more than a meander through our understanding of the universe we live in. The assumption is that is we are in a simulation of is in a world that looks like ours. This is only an exploration of how We would create a simulation. At least that's the case for the first couple of hours, after that I have no idea as I stopped listening.
Disappointing.

Historia
For decades we've been told the key to prosperity is to look out for number one. But recent science shows that to achieve durable success, we need to be more than just achievers; we need to be compassionate achievers. New research in biology, neuroscience, and economics has found that compassion - recognizing a problem or caring about another's pain and making a commitment to help - not only improves others' lives; it can transform our own.

Me me me
Revisado: 04-04-20
The author has an ego that is out of control. Every situation is illustrated by a "fantastic(al)" story about how amazing the author is as a human being. By the sixth chapter it has become to much. I couldn't listen to how I needed to be like him to be a compassionate achiever.
I'd rather be like me, a somewhat humble achiever.

Master one of our economy’s most rare skills and achieve groundbreaking results with this “exciting” audiobook (Daniel H. Pink) from an “exceptional” author (New York Times Book Review). Deep work is the ability to focus without distraction on a cognitively demanding task. It's a skill that allows you to quickly master complicated information and produce better results in less time. Deep Work will make you better at what you do and provide the sense of true fulfillment that comes from craftsmanship.

Oh so obvious
Revisado: 12-23-18
I got through the intro and the first chapter. No more.
The "insights" were that to succeed you had to be able to be creative with intelligent machines, be a leader in your field or have lots of Capital. That's not incorrect, but the positioning of this as something new because of technology is nonsense (replace intelligent machines with "new technology" and none of these things have changed for a very long time).
If the premise is so shallow I have no desire to waste my time on the details. I'll put my Deep Work into more productive use.

Under the aegis of machine learning in our data-driven machine age, computers are programming themselves and learning about - and solving - an extraordinary range of problems, from the mundane to the most daunting. Today it is machine learning programs that enable Amazon and Netflix to predict what users will like, Apple to power Siri's ability to understand voices, and Google to pilot cars.

Hyperbole and hubris dressed as intelligence
Revisado: 10-14-17
I struggled through the first 3 chapters. All I heard was very light discussion of different approaches to machine learning with an ever more frequent promise to decribe the one master algorithm. Maybe I'm missing out. Maybe there is some actual content later in the book, but I have better things to do than listen to three chapters with no content so I guess I'll miss out on the buries gems later in the book.
