Did you know that heart disease, cancer, diabetes, and ulcers are all diseases of the immune system? Did you know that aging itself is a disease of the immune system? What if you had a simple program to follow that could GUARANTEE you the healthiest immune system possible? Would that mean you would radically reduce your chances of coming down with these diseases? Would that mean that you could extend your life: and make it as healthy as possible? The answer to all these questions is YES!

Lots of useful information
Revisado: 08-20-10
The book concentrates on the immune system, crp's, and autoimmune diseases, and how these factors age our bodies. Its chalked full of easy to implement advice that can improve everyone's health and lower crp levels. Although it is written as a longevity book, it would also be very useful for anyone suffering from autoimmune diseases of any kind. The advice in the book is straightforward and you don't have to wade through a lot of redundant "hooey" to get to the point. I kept a piece of paper and a pencil near, I found myself taking notes 3 or 4 times during the read. Nice book, you should read (listen) it.

The first immortals are already living among us. You might be one of them. At first glance, that arresting statement sounds as if it might come from a science fiction story. But it is an astonishing, exciting fact - as explained clearly and cogently by Dr. Ben Bova. Here is a compelling, startling, understandable, and vitally important study of the greatest challenge - and the most tantalizing opportunity - ever faced by humankind.

Mountains of information
Revisado: 08-20-10
This book, Immortality, was a enjoyable read. It's packed with information and research in the history of science in the field of immortality. The only down side for me was that the book was somewhat dated. As I'm listening to the science on telemers the author states that 'currently, no known way yet for the average person to extend the life of telemers'. (paraphrased) This caused me to pause, since today we know that multi-vitamins especially C & E can allow the telemers to not shrink as fast, and in essences therefore, increasing the life of a telemer. I then checked the publish date on this book and saw that although audible.com is stating the publish date as 5/10 it is actually 1999. /sigh ... So no wonder the information in here is somewhat dated. I do which that audible would in the future make sure they are entering both the publish date and the audible date so that customers can make a more informed decision as to whether they want to spend 7 1/2 hours or not reading (listening) to a particular book. However, It was a fasinating read, and even somewhat dated contains a huge amount of information.

Historia
For centuries scientists have labored to identify and reverse the cause of aging, and now that effort has converged on one gland, one hormone, and one laboratory. The gland is the pineal - our body's natural timekeeper. The hormone is melatonin -- the pineal's messenger. The laboratory is headed by authors Drs. Pierpaoli and Regelson - who explain how to use melatonin to "reset" our biological clocks in order to live longer, healthier lives.

Good Information

I enjoyed listening to this book. It was written in an entertaining way and was packed with information. Giving a 4 star instead of 5 star because I would have liked to have had more information on the way the author derived his dosing recommendations since they are so much lower then most authorities suggest.

This was a great book! This book tells you exactly what to do and why and the science behind it to back it up. It's fast moving and jam packed with great information. It really gets you excited and motivated to wage war on aging. I backed up the audio and listened to several chapters twice because they were so interesting.

Lacks Substance
Revisado: 06-02-10
I'll sum it up for you "exercise 60 minutes a day 6 days a week".. There, now you don't need to waste your time on this book.
The good news is you can skip every other chapter if you still want to read it to satisfy your own curiosity. The doctors "side kick" takes up half of the book has nothing to say, just his old stories.... It's like listening to my 97 year old father talk about the good old days on the front patio.
The doctor doesn't have any new advice you didn't learn from your PE/health teacher in 6th grade. It's just the basics .. Like eat a decent diet, don't drink in excess... Don't smoke...& exercise... So if you've been living under a rock all your life and oblivious to the basics everyone has told about basic health, and are possibly mildy retarded ... you could need this book.
I've read dozens of health and nutrition books, this one has got to contain less information then a 3 page health magazine articles.
I really felt almost insulted at the extremes the book went. to "dumb down" it's content. Surely if these guys are going to write a book they have more knowledge then this, or maybe not.
