Historia
These 36 lectures tell the remarkable story of a tumultuous thousand-year period in the history of England. Dominated by war, conquest, and the struggle to balance the stability brought by royal power with the rights of the governed, it was a period that put into place the foundation of much of the world we know today. As you journey through this largely chronological narrative you'll see key themes emerge, including the assimilation of successive waves of invaders, the tense relationship between kings and the nobility, and the constant battles over money and taxation.

Amazing
Revisado: 03-04-16
What does Professor Jennifer Paxton bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Paxton reads this like she's trading stories with her best friend. It's enthralling. Her voice is gorgeous and I'd probably listen to her read the phone book.
Any additional comments?
Listening to this book for the third time (not in a row, but still). Maybe this makes me weird, but I just love it.

Historia
Understanding our humanity - the essence of who we are - is one of the deepest mysteries and biggest challenges in modern science. Why do we have bad moods? Why are we capable of having such strange dreams? How can metaphors in our language hold such sway on our actions? As we learn more about the mechanisms of human behavior through evolutionary biology, neuroscience, anthropology, and other related fields, we're discovering just how intriguing the human species is.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely - it was entertaining and educational.
What did you like best about this story?
It was just the thing for the interested layperson (me).
Which scene was your favorite?
The conjectures about the purpose and origin of dreams.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
n/a
Any additional comments?
A dash of philosophy, a pinch of neuroscience, and a lot of humanity. I'm sure a seasoned scientist would be bored, but there were plenty of insights for the casual learner.

Caution... gruesome. Dead babies. Ugh.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Those with a strong stomach and no children of their own might enjoy it more.
Has Secret Lives of the Tsars turned you off from other books in this genre?
Maybe
What does Enn Reitel bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
The narration was superb - I just didn't enjoy the work.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Secret Lives of the Tsars?
Well, pretty much all of it.
Any additional comments?
I guess I wanted more debauchery and less murder. I had to stop listening because it was just horrible death after horrible death. If that's your thing, go for it. I'm returning it.
