Humorous, thoughtful, sincere - very fast delivery
Revisado: 08-16-22
I enjoyed this memoir. It was infused with more humor, intelligence and thoughtfulness than I expected. Russell’s delivery was sincere and charismatic though he talks quickly so if you are multitasking while listening you may miss some here and there.

Fun magical YA read
Revisado: 04-05-22
This was a fun YA adult read perfect for fans of fractured fairy tales and magic strewn worlds. I loved the character development and world building. Highly entertaining. I will definitely continue the series. Narration on the audible was also perfect. Highly recommend it to fans of fairy tales, magic and light YA reads.

Concerned that technology is about to chase mythological creatures out into the open (how long can Sasquatch stay hidden from Google maps?), the League for Interspecies Cooperation is sending Jillian to Louisiana on a fact-finding mission. While the League hopes to hold on to secrecy for a little bit longer, they're preparing for the worst in terms of human reactions. They need a plan, so they look to Mystic Bayou, a tiny town hidden in the swamp where humans and supernatural residents have been living in harmony for generations.

Shifters, romance, murder and a dash of pure smut.
Revisado: 04-05-22
This was delightfully entertaining. I literally laughed out loud at several points in the story. It has humor, it has romance, it has an abundance of magic, quirky small town characters, and even a murder mystery. And a light sprinkling of smut. I'm not the biggest fan of smut as I tend to get bored with those scenes but it was not overdone. Only a couple scenes.
My only criticism would be that I would have liked to see a smoother transition from the fighting to the romance. The smut felt like it came out of left field for me despite the building of the contentious relationship between the leads. It seemed like they were in the "hate" stage for quite awhile then suddenly out of nowhere it was smut city. I also wasn't quite anticipating the rated x scene so do be warned that it does go to rated x with no warning at one point. This is mostly relevant if you happen to be listening while working and watching your toddler at the same time and suddenly find yourself explaining some interesting terms to a two year old... You know as a completely random example.
Overall if you need lightness and humor and pure entertainment this is a great book. Great for fans of paranormal romance.
Five stars for me. I was entertained.

Anna does boring things for terrible people because even criminals need office help and she needs a job. Working for a monster lurking beneath the surface of the world isn’t glamorous. But is it really worse than working for an oil conglomerate or an insurance company? In this economy? A sharp, witty, modern debut, Hench explores the individual cost of justice through a fascinating mix of millennial office politics, heroism measured through data science, body horror, and a profound misunderstanding of quantum mechanics.

Why is there not a sequel yet?
Revisado: 04-05-22
This is a great read for superhero fans. Action packed and fun but with some deeper undertones as well. The character development was perfection and the world building was strong as well. Highly engaging and very listenable. It seems some people were not a fan of the narrator my guess is due to some of the scratchy villain voices. I actually didn't mind the voices at all. Some of them were odd but they worked well with the story and the characters and I found it added to the experience.
This was a five star read for me. And I am anxiously awaiting a follow up... ahem ... sequel please?

A heavy dose of christianity
Revisado: 03-25-22
This one is difficult for me to review because I do not think I am the correct audience.
Four stars if you are a Christian looking to read a book about motherhood while actively practicing your Christian religion.
Three stars if you were just looking for a feel good book about general spirituality and motherhood.
I really thought this was going to be more about overall spirituality and motherhood and I was all in for that. However, this was a heavy dose of christianity. I am christian but I am not a fan of overly preachy, christian diatribes. I consider my religion a private thing and I think of it and handle it in my own way. Therefore, I feel I am the wrong audience for this book. It is hard not to let my disappointment color my review as I was disappointed that it was not the book I thought it was.
Narration was well done.
If you are a reader that enjoys reading about your Christian faith and you want to place your motherhood journey within the Christian experience specifically then this book is for you. If you were looking for just general spirituality or a feel good read about motherhood as I was then this is not the book for you.
Three stars for me but if you are the target audience this could be a four star read for you.

An uplifting memoir with a nice message
Revisado: 03-25-22
I enjoyed this memoir. It felt honest and real and raw. Overall it felt uplifting and delivered a positive message of finding inspiration, motivation and acceptance inside oneself. I felt the topic of Lindsey's religion was handled in an honest and nice way and did not come across as preachy or pushy as many authors tend to do when addressing religion. I am not of the same religion as Lindsey but it was written of in a way that made me respect her more for her convictions.
Her eating disorder was also addressed well in an honest way with an overall message of hope. This part of the memoir could be triggering for some readers though.
Trigger warning for body dysmorphia and eating disorder.

Historia
How will I raise my son to be different? This question gripped Washington Post investigative reporter Emma Brown, who was at home nursing her six-week-old son when the #MeToo movement erupted. In search of an answer, Brown traveled around the country, through towns urban and rural, affluent and distressed. In the course of her reporting, she interviewed hundreds of people — educators, parents, coaches, researchers, men, and boys — to understand the challenges boys face and how to address them.

A Difficult but vital read for parents of boys
Revisado: 03-25-22
This is a hard book for me to review. It took me longer than usual to get through it as I had to stop partway through due to the nature of the content. This was an emotionally difficult read. The book jumps you right into all the threats to boys in today's world. Everything is well sited with very detailed examples given. Very detailed horrific examples given and plenty of them. I was an emotional wreck listening to those portions. Even thinking about it makes me feel queasy and sick. I do think the inclusion of the statistics and examples is important and necessary. I wish it was balanced more in each section with concrete solutions though. Instead it felt like a barrage of horrific bad news to the point I had to take a break of several weeks because it was impacting me emotionally. The arrangement of the book seems to be deliver all the bad news first with lots of examples and statistics and proof. Hammer it home. Be very clear on the threats and dangers. Hammer it home more. Then it switches to solutions and actionable advice. But you have to get through all of that emotional sludge to get to the solutions and actionable advice.
So while I think this is a vital read for parents of boys and while all of the content included was necessary and while the writing style was quite readable I do think it would have been better to structure the book a little differently so it wasn't so much bad news all at once making it overwhelming.
The narration was well done for the audible.
Trigger warnings: Violence, Sexual abuse, rape, emotional abuse, suicide
It is a necessary read. It is just really hard to get through the way it is structured currently.
This is a 4 1/2 star read for me.

Beautiful tale, deeper than YA but not fantasy
Revisado: 03-25-22
This was a beautiful and lyrical story. The age of the main character puts it firmly in the realm of YA and the content is free of smut and violence and appropriate for young readers. However, it is has more depth than your typical YA read without being preachy, boring or difficult to read. The author's writing style was a joy to read. It truly is beautifully written.
The narration was perfect and an asset to the audible version of this book.
Five star read for me.

A fun paranormal romp with light romance
Revisado: 03-25-22
This was a fun paranormal romance read. For those that aren't interested in reading pages and pages of pure smut this has the perfect amount of romance. I personally get bored with endless descriptions of anatomy and how they engage together. Super yawn for me. I'm not much for pure smut. So this was perfect for me in the romance department. Flirtations and romance build up and nice world and character building without the monotony of smut for the sake of smut.
The romance was of course predictable but I wasn't looking for some huge hidden surprise or deep meaning in this book. It is a light fun paranormal romance and delivers 100% in that regard.
The narration was nicely done and an asset to the audible production as well.
I highly recommend to any reader who enjoys paranormal romance without a heaping side of smut. Also for those who love tales of newcomers to tiny towns (fish out of water learning their way in a new community, new climate, etc.)
Five star read from me. I will definitely be continuing this story and reading more from this author.

Light fun humorous entertainment
Revisado: 03-25-22
I enjoyed the first volume in this series about an aspiring super villain. It was light and fun and the production quality was great. The voice acting in the audible book was enjoyable and worked well with the story. Plenty of humorous moments and quirky characters. I appreciate a humorous fun story that doesn't take itself too seriously and that is exactly what this is. I found it easy to listen to while working. Sometimes books that are too heavy just won't work for me while I am working or doing chores. This one was a perfect little mental escape from the drudgery of chores, work, etc.
I recommend it for comic fans, superhero fans, fans of humor, and anyone wanting something light and fun to listen to. I will definitely be continuing the story with the next in the series.
