Historia
Writing about the rhythms and textures of what it means to live in a body that doesn’t fit, Rebekah reflects on everything from the complications of kindness and charity, living both independently and dependently, experiencing intimacy, and how the pervasiveness of ableism in our everyday media directly translates to everyday life. Disability affects all of us, directly or indirectly, at one point or another. Sitting Pretty challenges us as a society to be patient and vigilant, practical and imaginative, kind and relentless, as we set to work to write a different story.

Opened my mind to what I and many need to know
Revisado: 11-03-24
Very well written and well read by the author. I highly recommend this book to anyone. It really opened my mind to what I take for granted and what it means to live in this society with so many people with different abilities that are ignored and undervalued. I hope to read more by this author.

Well written, well researched, enlightening
Revisado: 11-09-22
I really liked this book. It opened my mind to another's perspective and experience. And I learned some new things. I felt It was well written and researched. Th a author's narration was very, very good. I feel like I will not look at places and things the way I once did, and that I will question things I once took for granted as being true in one perspective only.

An ongoing story, a story to remember
Revisado: 02-05-22
Amanda Gorman is amazing. She tells history in a poem. She is a poetic historian. Her words really make you think and feel about what is going on in our world now. Future generations, in their curiosity to understand this period of time should be encouraged and directed to add this book to their research. Meanwhile, to us living through this, she gives us hope and words to use as hope and bring us together and to help us even understand what we are living through.

Historia
Her name was Henrietta Lacks, but scientists know her as HeLa. She was a poor Southern tobacco farmer who worked the same land as her slave ancestors, yet her cells - taken without her knowledge - became one of the most important tools in medicine: The first “immortal” human cells grown in culture, which are still alive today, though she has been dead for more than 60 years. HeLa cells were vital for developing the polio vaccine; uncovered secrets of cancer, viruses, and the atom bomb’s effects.

Engrossing, emotional, and eye opening educational
Revisado: 08-07-21
The story this book tells is powerful. I could not put it down and I may re-read it. It is a perfect union of science, especially biological science, and the social, emotional, and familial experience of a human life. The way it shows how science plays a part in making life better, but also asks the question "at what cost?" and who benefits from it, is profound and opens up the reason for dialogue on this subject. The author explains the science of cell tissue research and genetics in way I was able to understand. The story of Henrietta Lacks and her family and their life experiences and all that they have gone through is so engrossing and makes you feel like you are part of that family, or at least a close friend, that you end up rooting for them and hoping for only good things to happen for their generations to come. There is just so much to this book and it's subject you just have to read it to find out!

Historia
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

A classic
Revisado: 07-11-21
I have loved this story for so long. This is the 1st time I listened to it narrated by Rosamund Pike, and found she really brings it to life and does it justice. It probably helps that she acted as one of the characters in the 2005 film adaptation. However, despite that she really was able to give each character a unique voice and personality. I really enjoyed listening and would recommend this audio version.

Fun read (couldn't put it down!)
Revisado: 05-22-21
It's a bit rich and thick in love and romance, but I'm sure if that's what you're looking for then you'd love this. I got interested in this series because of the Netflix series on the Bridgertons. My favorite of the series so far is the Duke and I (Daphne and Simon's story). I started to go in order of the series, reading the Viscount Who Loved Me (Antony's story), but I didn't like that one as much. I decided then to read the ones about my favourite characters Colin being one and I enjoyed this one much better. The narrator is really very good and very much brings the story to life. I would recommend for those who love reading romance and period novels.
