Historia
The galaxy remembers Hadrian Marlowe as a hero: the man who burned every last alien Cielcin from the sky. They remember him as a monster: the devil who destroyed a sun, casually annihilating four billion human lives - even the emperor himself - against Imperial orders. But Hadrian was not a hero. He was not a monster. He was not even a soldier. Fleeing his father and a future as a torturer, Hadrian finds himself stranded on a strange, backwater world.

Truly amazing work - narrator and author alike!
Revisado: 08-31-18
There is nothing quite so satisfying as a brilliant narrator, reading a first person/past tense book. It feels somewhat like listening to an elder's tale of their past - we know the end product, but how they got there is the true soul of the person.
That feeling is doubly true, when that book is as incredible as this one.
Without doubt, the best book of the year, that I've had the pleasure of listening to! (and I listen to a lot!)

I literally clapped at the end
Revisado: 03-26-18
In all honesty, I was a bit hesitant to read VoS. So many series I started a few years ago have disappointed one after the other with recent releases. And Ceda has become one of my all time favourite characters, so you know.. I just didn't want to go through it again. Anyway, I'm happy to report - NOT DISAPPOINTED! In fact, fell more deeply in love with the settings, characters, battles..
I got a little worried when there was some back and forthing, Ceda running around with her head cut off, with me wondering if she'd lost her mind a little.. But then, it came together and *kisses fingers*. Then it was on. And gave me some scenes to get weepy at, scenes to cheer at, scenes to yell at, and scenes to go "naaaaaaw" at.
And Sarah Coomes, the narrator, deserves an Audie. So so good! Expressive, clear characterisation, fantastic pacing.. Only a truly talented narrator can pull tears out of me. I literally clapped at the end. Then felt like a dork...
Beaulieu keeps nailing, and for once I am incredibly happy that the series has been stretched.

Historia
For time out of mind, bloodthirsty demons have stalked the night, culling the human race to scattered remnants dependent on half-forgotten magics to protect them. Then two heroes arose - men as close as brothers, yet divided by bitter betrayal. Arlen Bales became known as the Warded Man, tattooed head to toe with powerful magic symbols that enable him to fight demons in hand-to-hand combat-and emerge victorious.

If Joe Abercrombie and Jackie Collins' books had babies, they'd be very proud of their children - The Demon Cycle Series.
Ain't nothing wrong with having those legends as parents!
Narrator was great, breathing life into a bit of a shaky plot. A satisfying ending.

Words..
Revisado: 08-15-17
This book had me grinning and giggling, angry and weeping, grinning and giggling, angry and weeping, on rotation till the end of the book.
It may not have been the most unique story line, but Amy Harmon plays emotions like a lute so completely and overwhelmingly, that it makes up for any lack. Some of the writing throughout is truly inspired.
The narrator was so melodious and captivating, I could not stop listening. Beautiful.

WOOOOOOTAH!
Revisado: 06-23-17
First up, fair warning - there is a cattle truck full of swearing in this book. Hilariously used, but if your boat sinks at some cussing, you'll need to look away.
Look, I love my books bat crud crazy. They can make absolutely no sense, as long as the book ‘works’ throughout the nonsensical-ness. ‘You Die When You Die’ sits right about in my happy zone, however for those that need some plot to follow, this has it. It has a ‘run-from-the-evil’ plot line, and it does use quite a few tropes.. Well, the outer skin of tropes that have been gutted, stuffed with crazy string, then stitched back up.
Honestly, just read/listen to it. Laugh crazily, snort at the antics, and just enjoy Watson's ability to mold amazing characters.
Bring on book two so I have another excuse to snort laugh at a speculative fantasy historical fiction.
(the narration by Sean Barrett was top notch as well! Bet he enjoyed swearing like a sailor!! Or a Scrayling!)
