Interesting concept ruined by terrible writing

I love the litrpg genre despite the vast range of quality stories out there, but this book? This was the worst I've listened to/read yet. The writing is overly simplistic, completely negates actions in one chapter with what happens in the next, and super rushes every single event especially the ending.

Our fearless hero (who's actually filled with fear and runs away a lot) starts off losing his gf because he's framed for stealing. Before the trial he's told he'll need to be a gold farmer in a VR game to work off his debt. The judge realizes he's frame and the court pays him a big check not to hold the government liable.....But he lost his job and can't get a new one. So he decides to be a gold farmer in a VR game!? Honestly I should have just stopped listening there because the story just gets lamer from there.

A great follow up to the first book

This book follows the events that happen between the "past" and "present" times in the first book. If you enjoyed the first you'll enjoy learning at least a little of how Wick goes from being captured at the end of the "past" in the first book to where he is when he returns in the "present".

Another great story in to Bobiverse.

Dennis Taylor continues to bring new and interesting sci-fi concepts into the books while maintaining a consistent tone that mixes seriousness and comedy quite well. I can't wait to see what's in the next book.

delightful continuation of the saga

I was wondering where the story could go after the last book, but Martha Wells demonstrates that there is still a ton of stories to be told as Murderbot continues to grow and interact with the larger universe around it! I'm even more excited for the next book than I was for this one!

Die Hard meets LitRPG

The story is basically Die Hard in a fantasy VR game, but with a whole lot of interesting crafting thrown into the mix. I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the performance was well done.

One of the best LitRPG books I've read so far.

Thoroughly believable characters come together for an intriguing story of an AI controlled full emersion VR game. I look forward to future installments that delve further into the AI's development/motives and how players deal with the transition be two realities that feal equally "real".

Absolutely fantastic though emotionally draining

Very interesting device for having the main character going through time at a different rate than the rest of the world. The end wrap up felt a bit forced, but otherwise it was good. I have to say that the main character's story was so full of tragedy that I felt very drained at several points in the book.

Brilliantly done fantasy novel

Steeped in traditional Hungarian tales of baba yaga, this book was grabbed my attention in the first "page" and held tight throughout.

That headline is totally stolen from another reviewer somewhere, but it sums up this book remarkably well.The author does an excellent job of rooting the main character in the real world with her mundane struggles of life, love, and career, while smoothly introducing her to the truth of this urban fantasy world and balancing it all out with tidbits from the book she's working on to give the world a sense of history and true character.
