Autumn Stories
Revisado: 07-09-04
Another perenial favorite of our little autumnal addicted family. These stories are slightly different from your usual "ghost" stories because there is a lot of the Ozarks flavor in them. They are enchanting. The short story format is perfect for keeping children occupied in the car while running errends. The writing is crisp and vivid. The narration is transporting, you can smell the woodsmoke and hear the rustling of the wind in the trees. I would definitely recommend this story.

Stories for Autumn
Revisado: 07-09-04
My son and I really enjoy this particular audio book. We are both big fans of Halloween and the entire autumnal season and this has become a perinnial favorite. The writing is magical and the narration is crisp and transporting. Not to scary for younger children, yet not to "babyish" for the older ones. This is perfect for keeping the children occupied in the car while running errends.

Bedtime Stories
Revisado: 07-09-04
This is a hard book to review. A Wrinkle in Time is a timeless story beloved by the generations. In the audio version, Madeline L'Engle herself narrates. How exciting!!! Right? Unfortunately, wrong. Madeline seems to have a mild speech impediment which makes her sound at times like she has a "mouthful of marbles". Sometimes this can be rather grating. Also, she doesn't really seem to do different voices for the characters and you need to rely on text cues to figure out who's speaking. On the other hand, as the author, she knows how she meant the story to read and, if you let yourself get past the "mouthful of marbles" and the non-emphasis in the character voices, can enchanant the listener. I feel that even with the faults, this is well worth purchasing and well worth keeping.
