Historia
After the teenage daughter of a prominent Minnesota politician goes missing, a huge manhunt is launched to find her. But when Cork O’Connor’s grandson Waaboo stumbles across the shallow grave of a young Ojibwe woman while hunting blueberries, nobody seems to care. Nobody, that is, except Cork and the newly formed Iron Lake Ojibwe Tribal Police Department. As Cork and the tribal officers dig into the circumstances of her murder, they discover a link to the missing girl that suggests these are not isolated incidents, but evidence of something much more sinister.

This is an amazing series by an amazing author told by an amazing narrator. I’d gladly listen to anything these two do - separately or together. Bravo!

Historia
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

In the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, Donald Trump and many around him, including certain other elected Republican officials, intentionally breached their oath to the Constitution: they ignored the rulings of dozens of courts, plotted to overturn a lawful election, and provoked a violent attack on our Capitol.

Too important to pass by
Revisado: 12-08-23
Based on her exemplary performance during the Select Committee hearings, I expected a thoughtful, well reasoned, insightful book. I wasn't disappointed. I feel it imperative to say that politically I stand diametrically opposed to everything Cheney holds dear. I'll be recommending this book to anyone who will hear me.

Historia
Jack Wade, a claims adjuster for California Fire and Life Mutual Insurance Company, is one of the best arson investigators around. He's a man who knows fire, who can read the traces it leaves behind like a roadmap. When he's called in to examine an unusual claim, the tracks of the fire tell him that something's wrong. So wrong that he violates his own cardinal rule - "You don't get personal, you don't get emotional. Whatever you do, you don't get involved" - and plunges into the case.

The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force tactical air controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events.

Why we think it’s a great listen: You thought he was a stodgy scientist with funny hair, but Isaacson and Hermann reveal an eloquent, intense, and selfless human being who not only shaped science with his theories, but politics and world events in the 20th century as well. Based on the newly released personal letters of Albert Einstein, Walter Isaacson explores how an imaginative, impertinent patent clerk became the mind reader of the creator of the cosmos.

Quirks v Quarks
Revisado: 05-12-20
Once again Walter Isaacson has taken the life of a brilliant, complex, infuriating man and made his story a delightful read. How, I, a life-long student of humanities, was able to digest and (mostly) understand the work of Einstein is a testament to exceptional writing. I knew something of Einstein's politics, but learned enough to be in awe of his deep and abiding appreciation of his adopted country.

The new summer house on Sandhamn Island is an architectural dream for its owner, Carsten Jonsson. It’s a nightmare for the locals. The threats escalate when his guest lodge is burned to the ground and an unidentifiable corpse is found in the charred ruins.

The "Father" of our country was a most complicated man. Brought to life by Mr. Chernow; delightful in the telling, but crazy making in the truth of it. More than once I found myself in dialogue with Mr. Brick just because Old George made me so damned mad.
