Historia
In the summer of 1862, a group of young artists led by the passionate and talented Edward Radcliffe descends upon Birchwood Manor in rural Oxfordshire. Their plan: to spend a secluded summer month in a haze of inspiration and creativity. But by the time their stay is over, one woman has been shot dead while another has disappeared; a priceless heirloom is missing; and Edward Radcliffe’s life is in ruins. Over 150 years later, Elodie Winslow, a young archivist in London, uncovers a leather satchel containing two seemingly unrelated items.

A miraculous male transfermation!
Revisado: 10-07-24
Where to begin. I love this author's storytelling and his use of research in historical or cultural events or people. I would say I am a historianic (history, cultural, and romantic) because I enjoyed this book very much. I am biased too because I love his other books. (That were based in Italy). If you need something a tad bit different, this is it.

learned more about Texas history
Revisado: 01-10-24
having a german immigrant family who immigrated to Texas then Kansas, I found this most enjoyable and factual. This is mostly a how to and what to expect. I can just imagine being a German who had no why of getting any land that they could call their own and then moving across an ocean and a golf to Louisiana, getting an oxen and wagon, heading into Neuva Mexico (South and Central Texas). if you are a Texas historian, genealogist, or just curious, if recommend.

Historians have long told the story of America’s birth as the triumph of Jefferson’s democratic ideals over the aristocratic intentions of Hamilton. Chernow presents an entirely different man, whose legendary ambitions were motivated not merely by self-interest but by passionate patriotism and a stubborn will to build the foundations of American prosperity and power.

Jet is not the only one in danger - the curse is already at work. A frantic attempt to save a young man’s life spurs three generations of the Owens women, and one long-lost brother, to use their unusual gifts to break the curse as they travel from Paris to London to the English countryside.

Uhtred's war lust keeps me enthralled
Revisado: 08-04-18
King Edward, young Saxon king of Wessex is advised by a Christians priests and waives the advice of Uhtred that Danes aren't sitting back but are plotting and building up an army to take the rest of Mercia, then Wessex. Again with plots and twists and turns you get the sense that Iron Age pre-England was horrible. Between the Christian religion and the Pagan beliefs it weaves the people back and forth. I loved young and rambunctious Uhtred and his if I die attitude but now older and wiser Uhtred has more at stake. Disowning his eldest son Uhtred, who becomes a Catholic Priest and disowning him. Masking 2nd son Osbert, the new Uhtred and his heir. This story is a really good roller coaster ride and snap shot into 10th Century Saxon England.
