Historia
At one time, Corrie ten Boom would have laughed at the idea that she had a story to tell. For the first 50 years of her life, nothing out of the ordinary ever happened to her. She was a spinster watchmaker living contentedly with her sister and their elderly father in the tiny house over their shop in Haarlem. Their uneventful days, as regulated as their own watches, revolved around their abiding love for one another. But with the Nazi invasion and occupation of Holland, everything changed....

There are hardly words to capture the depth of this story. What a gift her story of God’s faithfulness, love and light are to us.

Historia
Margaret Easton needs a husband, and she needs one now. Her parents are convinced that only a European will do, but Margaret wants nothing more than to stay in England. The trouble is that there is only one man Margaret can think of, or rather, one she cannot forget, and he wouldn’t do as a husband at all. Then she finds herself in his care unexpectedly, and her hunt becomes even more complicated than she could have ever imagined.

Exciting! Addicting!
Revisado: 09-15-22
After finishing the whole arrangements series (definitely read those first), this was a thrilling and fun story that stands all on its own, even if we do see some familiar faces.
I enjoyed how the character the Gent was able to allow for a bit more of an exciting tale. My only disappointment (spoilers ahead) is that I wish the climax had been a little bigger. I had hoped she would actually play a pivotal role in his mission, not just a damsel in distress. But overall, it was a very exciting and addicting story to listen to.

A fun and enjoyable listen
Revisado: 08-09-22
I was curious what a story in this series might look like without romance being the central theme, and it delivered a fun, enjoyable story full of characters we leave come to love. It was all the things you love best about Colin and Kit.
I will say sometimes it dragged a bit, but overall it was a fun listen.

A Book Worth Listening
Revisado: 07-30-22
I was pleasantly surprised how enjoyable this final (well, kind of final) book ended up being. We have seen hints and foreshadowing regarding this relationship more than any other relationship, so I was worried it would not deliver in its full telling. However, Connolly delivered a satisfying, dynamic and winning novel.
While some parts felt reminiscent of some of the previous stories (namely Book 2), it still managed to differentiate itself. I very much enjoyed the development of both characters and their relationship. It felt, in some ways, a more realistic telling of how difficult it is for people to truly change.

Historia
Colin Gerrard has everything. He is a handsome, charming, and unattached gentleman in possession of a fortune. What nobody knows, and would never suspect, is that he is not nearly as carefree as he seems, nor is his heart free for anyone’s taking. It was already taken long ago, and when his lost love unexpectedly reappears, in London of all places, he’s very much afraid she still has it.

Overall satisfying, but not my favorite
Revisado: 07-08-22
I love Colin so much and have been looking forward to his particular story with anticipation. Overall, this book delivered in the overall arch of the story. But what was a little disappointing was that the predominant tone of Colin felt like a totally different person sometimes. It makes sense for the story, but I really missed the funny, witty jokester that we had come to know. I would have liked more of that side of him.

Life had never been particularly kind to Annie Ramsey. When a handsome, kind stranger offers her another way, she must decide if she is brave enough to change her situation or if she dares to hope for more. Duncan Bray could not resist the urge to help the young woman he found in the wintery chill of Yorkshire. Taking her to London and introducing her to a new life there would provide opportunities for her beyond what she ever could have imagined. But he never dreamed how this particular good deed would change everything for him as well.

Most exciting and steamy yet!
Revisado: 06-04-22
As book 4 of the series, I was pleasantly surprised that this probably the most exciting and steamy of the series yet!
I’ll forgive Connolly for skipping some of the regency etiquette of the time in order to deliver a more flirtatious and exhilarating romance. The characters were sweet and compelling, and the storyline had the perfect climax.
As usual, the narrator delivered perfectly!

Amazed! A truly enjoyable regency romance!
Revisado: 04-13-22
I consider myself quite the connoisseur of Regency romances, and consider Georgette Heyer to be the queen of all regency romance authors.
But I was amazed and astounded just how enjoyable and well written this read was! Rebecca Conolly might be my new favorite regency author.
Her story had great pace, beautiful tension and romance, complex character development, and authenticity. The narrator was perfection.
Her writing may not be filled to the brim with as many historical references or details as Heyer, but they are true to the period. I couldn’t stop listening!
I highly recommend!

Heyer trades folly for realism to fresh delight
Revisado: 12-07-17
I’ve listened to over ten Heyer audiobooks, and this is perhaps the most refreshing. While her stories usually have a great deal of levity and silliness, in A Civil Contract she explores a more realistic story of companionship. It perhaps didn’t have the idealic ending she usually provides, but it was equally satisfying. I highly recommend it!

The Best of Georgette Heyer
Revisado: 08-26-16
The Grand Sophy is easily the crown jewel in Heyer’s impressive collection of regency romance novels. Her characters are sculpted to perfection, the arch of the story is satisfying, and her humor makes each chapter a delight.
The performance by Woodward is incomparable. She is an excellent reader, making her characters easily identifiable and enjoyable.
