Historia
Two years ago, Graham Robb moved to a lonely house on the very edge of England, near the banks of a river that once marked the southern boundary of the legendary Debatable Land. The oldest detectable territorial division in Great Britain, the Debatable Land served as a buffer between Scotland and England. It was once the bloodiest region in the country, fought over by Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, and James V. After most of its population was slaughtered or deported, it became the last part of Great Britain to be brought under the control of the state.

Great history very well told and brilliantly narrated. A real winner if your interested in British history, the Borders or the rievers.

Historia
On May 3, 2010, an Irish national named Jeffrey Lendrum was apprehended at Britain’s Birmingham International Airport with a suspicious parcel strapped to his stomach. Inside were 14 rare peregrine falcon eggs snatched from a remote cliffside in Wales. So begins a tale almost too bizarre to believe, following the parallel lives of a globe-trotting smuggler who spent two decades capturing endangered raptors worth millions of dollars as race champions - and Detective Andy McWilliam, who’s hell bent on protecting the world’s birds of prey.

Fascinating Tale
Revisado: 06-14-24
Contains mild animal death and/or abuse but integral to telling story and not too graphic

Excellent in every way.

I listened to this because I was laid up for a short while and had listened to all of my choices. My wife had gotten this and shared it with me as she knew I needed something to listen to. NOT my usual genre of a listen but I was extremely impressed. Written for a younger audience no doubt, this 50 year old man thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish. A refreshing change of pace for me. Expert narration by Jayne Entwistle, I shall definitely search out more from her. While it may ring more with a British audience I feel it can be enjoyed by all, although I do have a British boarding school background so might be slightly biased. Some small issues with certain small bits of the story, these are probably personal issues and most might not even notice or feel the same, as they are negligible.
