This book was my bible in those early months - so grateful to have it as a resource.

Thoughtful, with splashes of judgement and hypocrisy

Overall I found this book to be reasonable, but there were several times where the author’s covert judgement and superiority complex showed, which really turned me off. I’m all for instinct-driven and nurturing parenting, but to be anti-stroller, anti-noise machine and anti-pacifier is just detached from reality. The author claims to be “modern” but also subtly shamed any mom who leans in these things to help her. She claims to care about maternal health, but discourages a pacifier? In reality, moms can’t (or don’t want!) to have a baby latched to them constantly, and the author doesn’t seem to get it. It’s like she parented in a bubble, or forgot how hard those early months are. Sad that this book incites shame more than empowerment.
