Paint your toes. Pick up the wrong coffee and bagel order. Drive from Brooklyn to Jersey in traffic so slow you want to tear your hair out. It’s amazing all the useless things I can accomplish while on hold for three hours with customer service. Three hours when I should be getting the Date-in-a-Box website ready to launch at the big business expo in a few days. Except my shiny new website is glitching, and my inner rage-monster is ready to scorch some earth...when he finally picks up. Not the robot voice I expected but a real live human named Kal.

Pretty original plot
Revisado: 03-29-24
Okay, in the first 5 minutes I almost stopped listening but it turned out to have a pretty original plot line and some character insights that rang very true for me. I would always prefer that there is no swearing at all - but, other than the brother’s characterization of the main characters usual dating type, the swearing wasn’t particularly gratuitous nor over the top.
All-in-all, a good listen and worthwhile, interesting story. But the girl sounds like Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope :)

Two things I really like in any content. The story is smart and nail-biting and surprising. She is a really good narrator and I’d like to find other things she’s narrated. Audible - make more things like this!

Historia
Can You Forgive Her? is the first of the six in the Palliser series. Trollope inextricably binds together the issues of parliamentary election and marriage, of politics and privacy. The values and aspirations of the governing stratum of Victorian society are ruthlessly examined, and none remains unscathed. But above all Trollope focuses on the predicament of women. 'What should a woman do with her life?' asks Alice Vavasor of herself, and this theme is echoed by every other woman in the audiobook.

Interesting and clean!
Revisado: 08-25-23
While not the most unpredictable ending, I found it a very good and interesting listen. I so appreciate when an author can keep the language and story clean and not think they need salty language to make it compelling or adult. Definitely worth a listen.

Historia
The irascible A. J. Fikry, owner of Island Books - the only bookstore on Alice Island - has already lost his wife. Now his most prized possession, a rare book, has been stolen from right under his nose in the most embarrassing of circumstances. The store itself, it seems, will be next to go. One night upon closing, he discovers a toddler in his children’s section with a note from her mother pinned to her Elmo doll: I want Maya to grow up in a place with books and among people who care about such kinds of things. I love her very much, but I can no longer take care of her.

Definitely not my favorite Austen story
Revisado: 07-05-23
It’s almost as if she didn’t know where she wanted the story to go or had to hurry and finish it. SO much build up and mystery for…what? A regular and expedited happy ending? I didn’t hate it, but I wouldn’t listen to or read it again.

The consummate wordsmith!
Revisado: 04-28-23
The reason I never tire of P. G. Wodehouse is, no doubt, his command of the language. No one surpasses his hilarity and variety in turn of phrase - not to mention his unrivaled word-smithery. Whenever I’m feeling gloomy, a spot of P.G. Wodehouse, particularly Jeeves and Wooster, puts me right.
“More P.G. Wodehouse, madam?”

Imagine if you made one little mistake when you were young and were punished for it for the rest of your life. Well, that’s what happened to Lydia (yes, that Lydia, the youngest Bennet sister from Pride and Prejudice), and she’s here to set the record straight. Hold on to your teacups and get ready for sophisticated (and a little bit naughty) hot takes and witty banter that’ll make you laugh—and think. We meet Lydia just as she is denounced by her family, exiled miles from home, and married to the rogue George Wickham, who seems to love all women...except his own wife.

This was quite a bit different, and better, than I was expecting. I love stories of redemption and feel like, even through fiction, this kind of message can be really impactful. Forgiveness, kindness and love are never wasted.

Historia
Mystery writer Lorinda Lucas tosses yet another paperback in the trash, appalled at the gruesome direction of today's crime fiction. She's even more disturbed at the half-starved state of Roscoe, the cat next door. Before Lorinda left for her latest book tour, Roscoe was as plump and pampered as her own two felines. It only takes a modicum of sleuthing to find out that in Lorinda's absence Roscoe's owner, Macho Magee, has acquired a new girlfriend-a harridan who has put the gentle Macho and his pet on a strict diet. And that's only the first disturbing news in Brimful Coffers.

Kind of fun
Revisado: 03-13-23
There were some good elements but the chapters that start with whatever book Lorinda is reading cause some confusion at first - and the writing in the pretend books is beyond ridiculous. I know that’s the point but it’s still pretty painful, even in short glimpses. The rest of the book has some fun quirky things and good plot beginnings but they just never flesh out in any way that I found compelling. I didn’t feel like any of the storylines had either a believable or satisfying ending. If it hadn’t been free, I would have returned it before I finished it.
