Historia
Meet the Trellis family: They're a little bit psychic, a little bit empathic, and completely oblivious to their special gifts. Matilda's not your typical damsel in distress. Bold, decisive, and unapologetically disabled, she is a self-employed strategic consultant in the liquor industry. Her reputation for success has landed her a sales opportunity to make a new brand of beer. Tall, dark, and handsome, Jake Trellis is ready to play the role of a foul-mouthed Prince Charming.

Entertaining...mostly
Revisado: 04-28-25
There were slow spots in the story for sure. Mostly the characters are good...the story line is pretty good...certainly a fantasy. The only real complaint I have is that the main character, Mathilda, started out strong then turned into a complete moron who jumps to every conclusion possible & never has a rational thought, never thinks things through at all in the last 2 hours of the book. It's hard to watch a strong, logical character dissolve into an idiot. I really dislike really stupid characters & I expected more from this one given how strong & smart this one was in the bigger part of the book. I don't know if I'll listen to book 2. The narrator of this one is better than average.

Historia

Story is pretty good, accents are pretty bad.
Revisado: 04-20-25
Overall, the over done southern accents are just terrible. Especially for Earl. They gradually improve for Bobbie, but never improve for Earl & he's just annoying and stupid. The story is actually pretty good & gets interesting as it goes on even if it's a slow starter.

Now the owners, a kindly older couple, are on the hook for the accidental death due to anaphylaxis, but they insist no mistakes were made on their part. Overall a good story
Revisado: 11-22-24
I've listened to all of the Miss Fortune books so far...and Cassandra Campbell is one of the best narrators around. However, her pronunciations of certain "French" names has always irritated me. She's pronounced the name "Hebert" a number of different ways & I don't remember a single one being the way any Hebert I've ever known pronounced it, which is "Ay-bear". Benoit is another name that is particularly grinding for me to hear. I have always & only heard it pronounced 'Ben-wah". Otherwise, Campbell does a stellar job on these books. I have enjoyed them all. It's a small complaint on my part and as a whole, it's a good story & presented well.

This whole series is basically a wash
Revisado: 08-29-24
The characters in this series, especially the main ones, are all juvenile and under developed bordering on absolutely stupid. I would hate to live anywhere near these people. I thought they'd get better over time, that they have stayed the same and gotten worse in some regards. They have stagnated and this writer hasn't put any effort into character or plot development. The reader isn't any better. She has limited range on doing characters & her idea of emphasis only lends itself to a high pitched squeaking voice that's totally over done. Overall, the writing, characters & narrator are all quite annoying. Good thing Audible is giving them away for free.

The long-awaited wedding of Monica and Greg is the highlight of the harvest season in Cranberry Cove, drawing friends from far and wide to help them celebrate. Among the guests are an old college friend of Monica's and the woman's boisterous new husband, a man with many enemies and more than a few bitter women in his past. Monica is soooo dumb...
Revisado: 08-26-24
And she never learns. She makes the most unbelievably stupid decisions and no matter what her experience, she never learns to do things differently. The story is annoyingly full of stuff that doesn't really move the story along and doesn't enhance the story in any way. The reader is constantly using a high pitched, shrill voice, for emphasis, I assume. It gets old in a hurry. She isn't very good at doing different voices for different characters. This one was worth the money because it was free.

Historia
The entire town of Cranberry Cove is popping with excitement. Monica Albertson is baking cranberry goodies by the dozen, and shopkeepers are decking out their storefronts for the first annual Winter Walk - an event dreamed up by the mayor to bring visitors to the town during a normally dead time of year. But it's the mayor who turns up dead during the grand opening ceremony, his lifeless body making its entrance in a horse-drawn sleigh.

A lot of filler
Revisado: 08-17-24
Without all the extra, unnecessary filler, this would be a nice short story. The prattle doesn't move the story along or develop characters. The main character is pretty much an air head who never EVER thinks of consequences. She is pretty irritating because of that. Everyone in this series so far squeezes one another's arms to the point of it being overdone. This book (and the series so far) are tolerable only because these were free.

When Monica Albertson comes to Cranberry Cove - a charming town on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan - to help her half brother, Jeff, on his cranberry farm, the last thing she expects to harvest is a dead body. It seems that Sam Culbert, who ran the farm while Jeff was deployed overseas, had some juicy secrets that soon prove fatal, and Jeff is ripe for the picking as a prime suspect.

Flat characters

The main character is pretty dull & fairly unintelligent. There is a lot of filler that does nothing to move the story forward.

Historia
Charlene, recently widowed, has renovated her historic mansion just in time to greet guests arriving for the town's annual Halloween festivities. She's lucky to have a helpful staff to provide support - as well as a handsome ghost named Jack standing invisibly by her side. Unfortunately, while the revelers head out on haunted tours, have their fortunes told, or grab a drink at Brews and Broomsticks, a killer walks among them. When Charlene discovers Morganna, a local Wiccan, dead in her shop, she starts getting cozy with the local coven, looking for clues to locate the crafty culprit.

Too many things to overlook
Revisado: 07-27-24
The author & narrator both seem a little lazy with this one. The author couldn't be bothered to spend 5 seconds to look up the legal drinking age in Massachusetts...it's 21. Here, this B&B owner gives whiskey to two 20 year-old guys without batting an eye. As in book 1, the MC refers to her "classes" in marketing that she took in college rather than any experience gained from her 20 year career. The relationships are all expedited, going from meeting to absolutely committed in a matter of pages/hours. This detracts from the credibility of the story and makes this character, Charlene, come off as absolutely stupid.
As for the narrator: Her pronunciation of the character named Jimenez as JIM-an-ez, is really annoying. Her attempts at accents are cringeworthy. Sometimes she will start off with an accent (weak for all that) and it completely disappears by the end of the sentence. I don't know if these people had any editors or anyone overseeing the quality of the writing & narration, but they certainly need someone to fill that role. I'm glad I got this book for free & didn't have to pay for it.

Historia
A grieving young widow, Charlene needed a new start - so she bought a historic mansion, sight unseen, and drove from Chicago to New England to start turning it into a bed-and-breakfast. On her first night in the house, she awakens to find a handsome man with startling blue eyes in her bedroom. Terror turns to utter disbelief when he politely introduces himself as Jack Strathmore - and explains that he used to live here - when he was alive. He firmly believes that someone pushed him down the stairs three years ago, and he won't be able to leave until someone figures out who.

Overdone Story
Revisado: 07-23-24
Very much like a lot of other 'ghost' stories. This one is a little harder to get into than others because the storyline is basically in fast forward. The main character is impetuous and doesn't ever really think things through. The basic timeline in this is little more than 2-4 weeks and already the woman gets over her grief about her dead husband & falls completely in love with her ghost. It might be better if it wasn't expedited the way it is. And if the character was more likeable and little less stupid. I'm just glad I got the book for free, which made it worth reading. I would be much more disappointed if I had paid for it.

Narrator can be quite annoying
Revisado: 02-13-24
The narrator has an annoying habit of doing a super high pitched voice a LOT of the time. Especially for women's voices. It's distracting & irritating. Otherwise, the story wasn't bad.
