It’s a story you’ve read/heard before.
Revisado: 06-22-23
It isn’t bad, but it’s not all that good, as a story. The performance is excellent, top-notch. The writing is far to Florida, and not infrequently a bit meandering and repetitive. I believe it would’ve been an all-around better story if it had been shorter. The ending is really rather pat, which was particularly disappointing.

one of the best anthologies out there
Revisado: 05-15-23
I really, really enjoyed this one. It's great because almost all of the stories at 4s or 5s, instead of the usual smattering of 2s and 3s with maybe two 4s and one 5, and the 5 is always the first or second story, to get you hooked. I like they had some dramatized to listen to as well as another track with just narration. "The King in Binary" is tops in this one, and it's also, I think, one of the best stories in the genre in the last year or three. -- Can't go wrong with this one, folks. 4.75/5

Historia
It's supposed to be a simple job, a look-see operation to make sure something terrible hasn't happened. The leader is prone to fits of violence, and there are rumors of previous human rights abuses. Only, when they arrive, the ship is...empty. The question is - where did everybody go? Armed only with riot gear, they explore the ship, intent on discovering the truth about what's happened on The Ark. What they find will be more nightmarish than anything they've seen before. Indeed, it's worse than anything they could imagine.

It was passably good.
Revisado: 02-09-23
Dead average sci-fi horror story with a similar performance. This one is OK but nothing to write home about. It isn’t terribly well written, is super tropey, and by the numbers.

Historia
A full-cast BBC Radio 4 dramatisation of an Agatha Christie story. On a flight from Le Bourget to Croydon, on which Hercule Poirot is an apprehensive passenger, a woman is found dead. A doctor on board is inclined to put it down to a wasp-sting, but Poirot suspects that a poisoned dart is the real cause - and, perhaps rather too conveniently, a blow pipe is discovered stuffed down the back of his seat. Clearly the murder can only have been committed by one of the passengers or crew on the plane.

Perfect.
Revisado: 09-26-22
Moffatt’s Poirot is superlative, and it’s great fun for longtime Agatha Christie fan’s that Philip Jackson is Inspector Japp on audios with one Poirot in addition to his run as Japp with David Suchet’s Poirit on telly. — The adaptation is on-point, and performances are top-notch all around. 10/10

a little labored
Revisado: 07-14-22
I liked the premise and the story overall. The process of it was interesting, but the performance felt rather a bit forced. The words as written is spoken rather than so heavily emoted, I think would’ve done a bit better for it. The performance was a bit aggressively emotional, and in a lot of places it came off affected.

Historia
As a child, Chris Hooper dreamed of monsters. But in deep space, he found only darkness and isolation. Then, on planet LV178, he and his fellow miners discovered a storm-scoured, sand-blasted hell - and trimonite, the hardest material known to man. When a shuttle crashes into the mining ship Marion, the miners learn that there was more than trimonite deep in the caverns. There was evil, hibernating and waiting for suitable prey.

Excellent all around.
Revisado: 12-09-18
Thoroughly enjoyable. Tightly scripted, excellently performed, highly atmospheric. Laurel Lefkow's Ripley is so much a dead ringer that I thought at the opening they'd used Sigourney Weaver's sign-off from the original film as the opening. Ripley's written very well in this audio, but Lefkow's performance really is remarkable. Rutger Hauer's as Ash is something of a coup, considering not only his famous voice but his legendary turn as replicant Roy Batty in the original Blade Runner film. Having made a career of playing smoothly sinister villains, his turn as interestingly handicapped Ash in this story works a treat. I am familiar with Corey Johnson's work on the big and the small screens, and he quite capably helms the Marion crew and its visitors in this story. Excellent work all around by the cast, as well as, of course, the production crew. Hats off to this production especially for sound design. It's very easy to see the story playing out in the mind's eye, the sound work perfectly accentuating and never once, to my ears at least, getting in the way as sometimes happens in audio productions. -- I really enjoyed this one. Recommended.
