Unpleasant characters and an impossible name.
Revisado: 02-28-25
The plants in the audience were horrid to Marius when he gave his talk but he persisted throughout the talk and the whole book with his usual efforts at courtesy. The tension between Marius and Bella is very tender. I think.
I continue to love how BB runs the inner thoughts of Marius as an underlayment to his actual conversations. A way to peer into Marius’ deep thoughts.
Thank you for the afterwords, too, fascinating.

I liked Ina’s honesty and appreciation for other people. She worked very hard, took risks, and cared for the people she worked with.

Drab story
Revisado: 10-23-24
I liked the possibilities of musicians in 1920’s London but this story trudged on and on going nowhere. The characters were lively but the narration and dialogue were dull,

Sad family mother

Historia
Clare Cosi used to manage the historic Village Blend coffeehouse…until she opted for quieter pastures and a more suburban life. But after ten years and a little friendly cajoling from the owner (a fresh pot of Jamaican Blue Mountain was all it took), she's back to the grind. With a sprawling rent-free apartment directly above the Village Blend, her cat Java by her side, and plenty of coffeehouse redecorating ideas, Clare is thrilled to return to work. Until she discovers the assistant manager unconscious in the back of the store, coffee grounds strewn everywhere.

Setting in GV of New York gave a real city feel to the story.
Revisado: 12-30-23
I never got a clear idea of the layout of the building, stairs, duplex, etc. And halfway in the story meandered and added uninteresting self serving characters.

Foggy Story
Revisado: 12-07-23
The story was dragged out for 32 chapters when 16 would have been sufficient. More development of each man’s character, experience in the war, and present post war trauma would have made the story clearer. If the authors object was to make the story twisty and frustratingly contradictory then well done!

Just like the murky fens this story is thick with repetition and unclear direction. Continual flitting between central characters and setting makes the story stay murky. Good reader. You

A Confused Lack of Story
Revisado: 07-31-18
I have read other books by Mr Silva and this seemed like a rehash; same technology and spy vs spy tricks. Slight effort to make the settings and events timely.
