I liked this first book in the Blue Light Series featuring Danny Wolf. He was a likable character even though you're never quite sure if he is or is not committing the gruesome murders. The carving of crosses on the young female victims is particularly graphic and the Author has a knack for letting you see the bodies through his word pictures. Being a Stephen King fan (and although Hall's novels are nothing like King's) I found this part particularly well done.

This book introduces Rick Jennings who will appear in the second book in the series along with a few new characters. The first book is fast-paced and keeps you wondering what is happening but take notice because you will need all those clues to enjoy the second book, Soul Thief. Even though these books can be read on their own, I believe it was better to read them one after the other.

I read the First Book, Apocalypse Island, and was kindly given a free copy of the second in the series, Soul Thief, by the Author. Thank you Mark. I enjoyed listening to this book. It is a long novel and I listened to it in many parts. It was easy to follow most of the time. I was studying at University while reading this so at times I was a bit distracted. Even through my distractions the novel kept me in to the end.

I didn't enjoy the narrator and it took me a while to get used to his voice. Once I did it was okay but the voice of The Collector was particularly annoying. I just had to ignore that.

It took me a while to get used to the Author's style (as I am a Stephen King fan) and once I settled in to his way of writing I enjoyed the read.

I am looking forward to the third (and I assume final) novel in the Blue Light Series.

Would you listen to Temple Grandin again? Why?

I will be listening to this book again. This was a very quick listen. A book that you can listen to in one afternoon.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

This isn't actually a story as much as a partial memoir written for a younger audience. I didn't realize this when I purchased the book but it didn't matter because I still found the information very useful. I especially enjoyed the advice on animal husbandry.

Any additional comments?

If you know nothing about Autism and also enjoy cattle or sheep then take a look.

Not nearly as good as NOS4R2...

I found the plot choppy here and there, and there were parts of the book I simply tuned-out. It was hard to keep interested in the plot at times, and other places simply brilliant. It felt like a first novel attempt but I still found it enjoyable. The storyline left a lot unsaid and a lot undone as far as tying up all the loose ends.

I felt Hill was writing two novels and trying to bind them into one. The ending left me thinking, "And how'd we end up here?" Perhaps I'd tuned out at that point.

In general I find Joe Hill's writing a bit gritty and sometimes offensive. Hill takes his obsession with evil and the devil and twisting the Bible just a bit too far and makes for uncomfortable reading. But, then again I enjoy an uncomfortable read but only if it makes me think and there is some resolution. Some parts of the novel were plain boring. I noticed there were times in this novel that resembled what he'd written in NOS4R2 but I felt NOS4R2 was a much better read.

I loved the choice of character name, Ignatius Martin Perrish, reduced to Ig.

And there were many scenes that were so graphically vivid that I could see the characters and what they were doing. I love when a writer can achieve that.

There's talent in Joe Hill's writing for sure; he's ability to paint a good scene, to make you cringe, he's warped sense of humor and to take a small piece of information or an idea and build a whole story around it. The only area that I felt needed improvement - plot.

I'm intrigued now to read, Heart Shaped Box :)

Is it just me, or does King do bad romance?

I enjoyed this long novel.

I got a bit bogged down in the part where, Jake Epping (George Amberson: main character) has a love interest and, boy, did I find that woman, Sadie, boring and annoying. I don't believe King, does romance all that well but then that could be just a "me thing" because I don't generally like to read romance. The character of Sadie seemed cheesy and I kept hearing "Sadie, the cleaning lady" from the song by John Farnham which was quite a distraction [my bad].

I was intrigued by the story behind the story of stopping the death of J.F.K. and the consequences of such an action.

I feel very lucky to be in a world where one can read the work of a famous author and not feel that he slaved over every word for years and researched his butt off, although he must have. Thank you Mr. King.

As always, Stephen King, did a great job keeping me reading until the end.

Annoying "Female Voices" by the Narrator ...

Found this book painful not because of the story, although at times I found the story simply suspending belief too but because of the narrator.

I think I could have enjoyed this book if I didn't have to listen to the annoying attempts by the narrator to provide the "female voices". I think it would have been better to have heard the story read by a male without pretending the female characters voice and especially the childs voice which was even more painful to listen to than the adult female attempts.

I haven't finished the book yet and I'm not sure I can bare to do so.

This free gift graciously given, written & narrated by Ann Patchett was a most enjoyable and enlightening read. Patchett, takes a fresh approach to challenging the age old question of marriage being the "correct" or "religiously right" way of being in a relationship with the opposite sex and yet let’s you decide from sharing her experience.

The really great lesson from this enjoyable read was "Everything in life ends"...

We all know, everything ends, in our heads but to recognize it in our heart and soul as an epiphany becomes particularly poignant.

In, This is the Story of a Happy Marriage, what starts out as a life anyone could have led the reader is surprised to find something more.

Worth the time.

If You Want To Be A Great Writer, Get This Book... I liked this book. I mean, I really liked this book. For me, it was awesome. Liked Zinser's voice too. Easy to understand & enjoyable. Great value. I will listen to this over and over. Especially enjoyed the section on, writing your memoir, tacked on as an extra bonus. Truly great value for any writer (or would-be writer). I feel I'd like to buy the hard cover now to be able to use a highlighter pen on all the really good bits. Only problem; I'd probably end up highlighting the whole book!
