Could not finish, book returned
Revisado: 03-22-24
8 chapters in and I couldn't go on. The first book had it issues but I thought things would develop better. The story is just too far out there for me and the constant bravado of the main characters is too difficult to listen to.

A classic
Revisado: 03-22-24
It's Hemingway so the story is excellent. Luckily the narrator was perfect for this and created the an outstanding performance.

Historia
In January of 2019, I was trapped in a hotel room in the DusitD2 in Nairobi for 17 long hours while Al-Shabaab terrorists attacked the property. I was completely alone, and certain I was going to die. However, thanks to the incomprehensibly brave men who fought to get us out, hundreds of us were extracted to safety. After the attack, though, PTSD made me so miserable that I started to wish I had died after all. This book is the in-depth retelling of the attack, combined with my personal journal entries about PTSD afterward. It's a true story about trauma.

You must get this book
Revisado: 03-22-24
Meyli does a great job of placing you in her shoes. A young professional who never thought something so terrible could happen to her. Not the just the event its self but the aftermath. Dealing with the trauma and her account concerning her employer just treating her like a number... Can't recommend the book enough.

The true story (on which the film Jeremiah Johnson was partially based) of John Johnson, who in 1847 found his wife and her unborn child had been killed by Crow braves. Out of this tragedy came one of the most gripping feuds - one man against a whole tribe - in American history.

Great story

It's a great story, entertaining with some historical accuracies and many fun exaggerations. Regardless it is a great story and worth the listen.

The super solar storm wasn’t supposed to hit Earth - the odds were against it. And yet it did, and everything changed. The storm causes a global blackout. Society begins to come apart as the planes begin falling from the sky and all traces of normal vanish. Scott Montgomery watches helplessly as pandemonium consumes the world around him. But the loss of electrical power is just the first of the problems facing the survivors in the chaos that follows.

Decent but...
Revisado: 03-22-24
Decent but too much bravado and inaccurate technical specs take away from the story. The overall premise is interesting and as the story unfolds it keeps your interest but the bravado of the characters begins to ruin the story. The inaccurate technical specs is irritating. The author failed to do proper research on basic information and anyone interested in these topics it will be irritated by it. Example would be a character firing his SR25 "7.65" sniper rifle when it is suppose to be a 7.62.
The last thing, without completely spoiling the story... The portrayal of the US Special Operations community is way off base.
Maybe the series improves, I will give part 2 a chance.

Historia
On a small two-lane bridge in a rural county that loathes the federal government, the US Army uses lethal force to end a standoff with hard-right anti-government patriots. Inside an ordinary diner, a disaffected young man with a handgun takes aim at the American president stepping in for an impromptu photo-op, and a bullet splits the hyper-partisan country into violently opposed mourners and revelers.

Filled with inaccuracies and prejudice
Revisado: 03-10-24
Reading through the reviews I thought this book would have a better chance of being a good book. Instead I found myself agitated at the overwhelming emphasis on racial tension, insisting that law enforcement is corrupt with white supremacy and that the US is essentially filled with non stop gun violence.
The author continues to insist the racially motivated alt right will bring about the coming civil war supported by US law enforcement.
The book has potential but the author is off base.
Don’t waste your time on this.

Historia
According to R. Douglas Fields, PhD, we all have a rage circuit we can't fully control once it is engaged. The daily headlines are filled with examples of otherwise rational people with no history of violence or mental illness suddenly snapping in a domestic dispute, barroom brawl, or road rage attack. We all wish to believe that we are in control of our actions, but the fact is, in certain circumstances we are not. Something in our environment can unexpectedly unleash an automatic and complex rage response.

Great info scattered with strong bias.
Revisado: 11-14-21
75% of this book is really good. It has a lot of good information but is ruined by the authors obvious biases. There is a point in the book where the author goes on a rant listing out all the ways and reasons humans kill but reports that carnivore animals only kill for food. This ranting chapter was odd to hear when the majority of the book prior to this was full of information backed up with solid facts or at least credible theory.
The bias continues with one too many anti law enforcement comments. Describing police officers as "trained killers" and painting a picture that there is a epidemic issue of correctional officers sexually assaulting prisoners. The author spends a large amount of time on the Boston Marathon Bombers and insinuates the officers who pursued were wrong. The author continues by telling the Bomber's stories in an empathetic way that I found disturbing.
The author describes Police Riot Teams as wearing modern armor, reminiscent of knights facing off with peasants. These scattered bias comments became far too obvious and made the book difficult to finish. Sad because one really bad chapter and a smattering of BS keeps me from recommending this book.

An unforgettable firsthand account of a people's response to genocide and what it tells us about humanity. This remarkable audiobook chronicles what has happened in Rwanda and neighboring states since 1994, when the Rwandan government called on everyone in the Hutu majority to murder everyone in the Tutsi minority.
