Historia
Jane Austen’s most popular novel, originally published in 1813, some 17 years after it was first written, presents the Bennet family of Longbourn. Against the background of gossipy Mrs. Bennet and the detached Mr. Bennet, the quest is on for husbands for the five daughters. The spotlight falls on Elizabeth, second eldest, who is courted by Mr. Darcy, though initially she is more concerned with the fate of her other sisters. This marvelous account of family life in Regency England is read with customary panache by Juliet Stevenson.

Juliet Stevenson is wonderful
Revisado: 04-04-25
The subtle satire of Jane Austen's novels is often mistaken for romance. Juliet Stevenson conveys this sharp wit with a beautifully subtle performance. This is a favorite reading and is highly recommended.

So much fun
Revisado: 04-03-25
This series is just plain fun. The author has built a well-thought out world and the performance adds depth to the humor. Want to get away from the stress, depression and anxiety of today's world? Pick up this series and get away for awhile. Have fun!

Almost as good as the first...
Revisado: 03-14-25
The narration and performance were as excellent as the the first. The wild story is fun and exciting. There is, unfortunately, a brief part which is meant to be funny, but, by today's enlightened standards, is racist. Just as the fat-shaming in the Chocolate Factory, this racism is not central to the story. Neither should be excused and should be addressed as seen fit by the caregivers. The rest of the story is wonderful, fun, and important learning is presented in such a fun and charming way. The music is the same exciting and triumphant piece as in the first. Recommended.

Willy Wonka's famous chocolate factory is opening at last! But only five lucky children will be allowed inside. And the winners are: Augustus Gloop, an enormously fat boy whose hobby is eating; Veruca Salt, a spoiled-rotten brat whose parents are wrapped around her little finger; Violet Beauregarde, a dim-witted gum-chewer with the fastest jaws around; Mike Teavee, a toy pistol-toting gangster-in-training who is obsessed with television; and Charlie Bucket, our hero, a boy who is honest and kind, brave and true, and good and ready for the wildest time of his life!

The music...!
Revisado: 03-13-25
This book/Audible is fun, exciting, and great for the entire family. The narration is superb. But what a delightful surprise in the gently placed sound effects and music. The music which opens and closes the book is exciting, and surprisingly uplifting. (Pun is intended, but listen for yourself to get it.) Highly recommended.

Historia
Once upon a time, in the magical land of San Francisco, there lived a not-so-ordinary girl named Laurel Pettigrew. She was supposed to be the Chosen One. The plan was simple: She would vanquish the great evil Tybus in an epic battle. But destiny had other ideas, and Laurel's performance in the whole heroics department was a colossal flop. Now, instead of being a legendary hero, Laurel's the resident pariah of the magic realm. And what’s worse, the dark wizard Tybus swooped in, took over the realm, and forced all supernatural creatures to live under his tyrannical rule.

So. Much. FUN!
Revisado: 02-13-25
What's not to love in a wonderful production by Felicia Day and a cast as incredible as this one. Don't miss this. Due to sexual references, you won't want the Littles to hear it, but for the rest of us, it is a roller coaster ride of excitement and hilarity. I had to listen to it straight through in one day, it was that good. Take it from a 74 year old woman who learned to embrace her weird before many of you were born, this is strange entertainment at it's best. You will thank me after you listen. You're welcome.

Historia
After the killing of a prominent mob lawyer, NYPD homicide detectives Jacob Jackson and Caitlin Grimes start receive chilling, written “rules” for how to commit the perfect murder. "Rule number one for the perfect murder: Evidence is your enemy. Leave none behind." Jackson (Reid Scott) and Grimes (Cobie Smulders) race to find the killer, setting them on a collision course with the city’s crime underbelly, and a perpetrator who seems happy to toy with them. “Rule number two. No crimes of passion. The perfect murder is always business, never pleasure.”

Fast, Furious, and Fun
Revisado: 12-13-24
A great listen with a terrific, though chilling, twist. The performances are superb. As you listen, you start seeing everything. Are there a few areas where you must suspend your belief? Of course (it is irritating when you know a pertinent piece of evidence would contain fingerprints which would lead to an arrest, but it's ignored. Hmm, a clue, perhaps?). But it isn't until the end that you can look back and put it all together. Highly recommended.

Historia
Patric Gagne realized she made others uncomfortable before she started kindergarten. Something about her caused people to react in a way she didn’t understand. She suspected it was because she didn’t feel things the way other kids did. Emotions like fear, guilt, and empathy eluded her. For the most part, she felt nothing. And she didn’t like the way that “nothing” felt.

Sociopaths are people, too.
Revisado: 07-08-24
Whether you agree or disagree with Dr. Gagne's therapeutic approach, the one thing which stands out in this memoir is the cry for compassion. She has made it possible to understand that, through no fault of their own, sociopaths are missing that connection to feelings. What is worse for them is that they often know it is missing. I, personally, am an advocate for mental health and for those who are in dire need of help in receiving the proper treatments. Remember, the one who is most difficult to love is often the one who most needs our love.

Historia
Kenan Thompson is Saturday Night Live’s longest-ever-serving cast member and a star of such pioneering sketches as “Black Jeopardy” and is hugely beloved thanks to a tidal wave of nostalgic fans who grew up on early 2000s classics All That, Good Burger, and Kenan & Kel on Nickelodeon. He’s also a dad (to two girls) in his mid-40s living in suburbia, and whose universal, relatable, family-friendly humor has created unbelievable appeal and engagement from fans from middle America to coastal elites. Becoming a dad sucked the cool right out of him—and he's OK with that!

The Real Kenan Thompson
Revisado: 04-03-24
As a 73 year old woman who had her children later in life, I was privileged to watch Kenan grow up along with my kids. There was always something about that young actor that made me think, maybe he will make it to adulthood and show the world how very talented and gifted he is. I started watching SNL again because of Kenan. His story is told with love and honesty. Kenan has a great voice. Although he used an even, pleasant vocalism, I could hear the true emotional range under it. This young man still has gifts to bring to our world.

Please, save yourself - and your money
Revisado: 01-29-23
For the first time in all the years I have been reviewing, reading and listening to the written word, I am giving 1 star across rhe board. Nancy Grace, you should not have quit your day job. I'm sure you laughed all the way to the bank.
I read/listened to all three books. I believe in giving an author (and narrator/performer) a chance. Often, three is the charm. Not with the Hailey Dean trilogy. May she rest in peace.
The writing, the pace, the story is, for want of a better word, ludicrous. It's repetitious, drawn out, predictable, and frustrating. There are two readers. The reader for the first two books was irritating, the last, was worse than the first. I tried to think of one redeeming quality of this agenda-ridden series (we get it, Nancy, you believe in the death penalty) but it isn't there. It all leaves you feeling as if you have intruded upon Nancy Grace's overindulgence in a personal fantasy life. It isn't pleasant.
If you watch and enjoy Hallmark Movies and Mysteries, the Hailey Dean series is one of the better ones. The only things it has in common with the book series are the names of the characters. Nancy has silly cameos in each (not too bad for comic relief. A bit over the top, but funny.) And, Hallmark is itself, an acquired taste. If you have to see for yourself after reading this review, borrow, don't buy. You have been warned.
