Historia
How did a libertine who lacks even the most basic knowledge of the Christian faith win 81 percent of the white evangelical vote in 2016? And why have white evangelicals become a presidential reprobate's staunchest supporters? Jesus and John Wayne is a sweeping account of the last 75 years of white evangelicalism, showing how American evangelicals have worked for decades to replace the Jesus of the Gospels with an idol of rugged masculinity and Christian nationalism.

Good timeline to see the evolution
Revisado: 08-02-21
Follows an angle in the evolution of American evangelicalism vs culture (or ethics or racism or crime or etc), mostly ralating to masculinity, similar to how others tracked things like how the word God got on American money. If you can't get enough of the subject, you'll find a fair few nuggets here. If you're less familiar, you'll likely get quite a lot in a very straightforward, chronological narrative.
If you don't know who John Wayne is, you're basically just lucky but this is one place to start if you hate luck.

Historia
Once upon a time, a group of libertarians got together and hatched the Free Town Project, a plan to take over an American town and completely eliminate its government. In 2004, they set their sights on Grafton, NH, a barely populated settlement with one paved road. When they descended on Grafton, public funding for pretty much everything shrank: the fire department, the library, the schoolhouse. State and federal laws became meek suggestions, scarcely heard in the town's thick wilderness.

Incredible recounting of a real-life dark comedy
Revisado: 07-17-21
First, this was my introduction to Matthew Hongoltz-Hetling. Dude can write.
Second, this narrator was excellent, capturing the tone of the narrative perfectly.
It might matter what your politics are. I mean, they call it out right there in the title. What I think might get lost in that is that this is about a series of events and a cast of characters; just go with the story folks. It's funny and horrifying and gobsmacking and a whole other litany of descriptors that do not include boring, and I mean never, not for a second. It totally broke a lot of workouts as I snorted out loud. I'm not really given to snorting. In other spots, it got so tense I would stop what I was doing and not even realize it as people and their dogs went toe-to-toe with bears they discovered in unexpected places.
It's a page-turner. Get it.

Historia
Edit Better was made for video editors who consider themselves advanced hobbyists or growth-minded professionals, artists who know that the tools of editing matter far less than the knowledge of how to use those tools powerfully. This audiobook does not illuminate the workings of Avid, Final Cut, or Premiere, and is not a meditation on film editing. What it is: a provocative, wide-ranging collection of strategies and tactics for the creative application of TV and video editing, no matter your editing tools.

Great, holistic advice
Revisado: 08-08-19
Mostly needed help producing instructional videos for work. The advice in this book lands at the intersection between the technical and the artistic so, as some other reviews have said, novices like me can find the reasoning behind whether or not things we try work sometimes but not others. It gives a better approach and a better way to think through a project regardless of the tools in use. I won't be winning Oscars but my projects already flow better and just generally suck less.

Historia
Sleep is the subject of intense scientific debate among biologists and neuroscientists. Why must we spend about one-third of our lives asleep? What exactly is sleep? Why does a lack of sleep impair our cognitive abilities and leave us vulnerable to a host of medical issues ranging from obesity to reduced resistance to infectious disease?

TONS of good information
Revisado: 03-08-19
These lectures are incredibly dense with pharmacology, psychology, psychiatry, physiology...all around sleep. My frustration with sleep has always been that we know so little, but these lectures crystallize just about everything. Taken that way, it's an awful lot. Also, for bad sleepers like myself, there is a lot of practical advice and even the occasional glimmer of hope in here, particularly for what the future may bring. Well done and well worth a listen or three.

Very helpful

Better answers to broad topics than most business books. Just good fundamentals with specifics where you need them and solid, general principals anywhere else. The marketing section in particular crystalized a lot for me that I used to find confusing. Highly recommend.
